Edward Piniero Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 18, 2010.
Edward Piniero, 69, of Indian Rocks Beach surrendered to a hard-fought battle with cancer on November 18, 2010. Born and raised in Manhattan, New York, Ed and his bride Marcella settled permanently in Florida in the early 1970's. A devoted and consummate family man, Ed was also an avid recreational marksman, handyman, and computer geek. Anxious about rapid growth surrounding his quaint and beloved beach town, Ed became impassioned about civic engagement. He served separate terms as mayor, city commissioner, and fire commissioner for Indian Rocks Beach, and was committed to a life of public service. One local newspaper reported that upon his swearing in as city commissioner, Ed avowed to do his best and always "work for the little guy, protect property rights and keep the city's small town ambiance. Ed celebrated his 43 weddings anniversary on November 3rd. He will be remembered by family, friends, and his community for his legacy of loyal service, quiet demeanor, warrior spirit, and strong resolve to do the right thing for his fellow man. He is survived by his loving wife Marcella, his devoted children John, Kerri Ann, Darren and wife Jessica, and by five adoring grandchildren, Aubrey, Hailey, Chloie, Ethan, and Hannah. He will be deeply missed by parents Tony and Gloria, and by siblings John and Gloria, Ronald and Priscilla, Anthony and Brenda, Jeff, Glenn and Susan, Irelene and Robert, Corinne and William, Doreen, and Maryann and Tom. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Suncoast Hospice Foundation. A public visitation will take place Sunday, November 21, from 3 to 6 pm at Moss Feaster Funeral Home Serenity Gardens Chapel in Largo. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 10895 Hamlin Blvd in Largo, at 10:30 am on Monday, November 22, followed by the interment at Serenity Gardens Memorial Park, Circle of Honor.

When Eddie was about 11 years old, he and I went to CYO camp for a week during the summer. If your parents could afford it, you paid for the camp, if not you went for free. Our parents gave us 10 cents a day for spending money. When it came time to buy candy at the end of the day, Eddie noticed that one poor kid didn’t have money to buy candy. Eddie split his dime every day with this kid. That’s what Eddie was all about.

We are all very sad in the Suarez family. My parents Jack and Ofelia have always spoken of Ed's big heart and his selflessness in helping countless others throughout his life. My whole life I never saw Ed angry at anyone and I never heard of anyone being angry at him. Especially in our current times, this is such a rare quality that it highlights what an exceptional person Ed was to all of us. My mom felt sad that he deserved to live longer after all the good he did for others. My solace is in knowing that Ed's compassion, which he showed for others throughout his life, is a reflection of a life well lived. We will truly miss Ed, but the memory of his compassion will live forever in our hearts.

There will be an empty chair at the holiday table this year, but it will be filled with loving memories.

I knew Ed when he worked for Honeywell. He was funny and had a great passion to help the community. I am glad he was able to fulfill his dreams.
