Edwin L. Westfall, 76, of West Liberty, formerly of Lone Tree, died Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Funeral services for Ed will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 2, 2011, at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Carol Kaalberg, St. Mary's Parish Life Administrator will preside. Burial will be in the River Junction Cemetery with full military rites provided by the Lone Tree American Legion Post #457. Casket bearers and honorary casket bearers will be Ed's grandchildren. Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion. Visitation for Ed will be held on Sunday, May 1, from 4:00 p.m. -- 7:00 p.m. at the Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Ed. Online condolences for Westfall family may be sent to www.lewisfuneralhomes.com.
Edwin Westfall was born on October 23, 1934, in Lone Tree, Iowa, the son of Lewis James and Pauline Ruth (Mullinnix) Westfall. Ed was a graduate of Lone Tree High School and served with the United States Navy. On November 8, 1958, Ed was united in marriage to Kathleen J. Meade in Iowa City. Following Kathleen's passing in 1990, Ed found his second love of his life, Eva Eden. Ed was a farmer in the Lone Tree area his entire life. Ed had a great love of farming and logging. He also enjoyed poker at the casino, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, mushroom hunting, traveling, homemade ice cream and being with his family.
Ed will be deeply missed by Eva Eden of West Liberty; his children, Chris Westfall and his wife, Colleen of Lone Tree, Linda Aldridge and her husband, Rick of Lecompton, Kansas, Gail Hunter and her husband, Dennis of Batavia, Bonnie Thomann and her husband, Jeff of Ainsworth and Brian Westfall and his wife, Trudi of Lone Tree; and 17 grandchildren, Eileen, Kyle, Kerry, Landon, Jill, Tyler, Riley, Avery, Wyatt and Abbigail, Luke, Jessie, Cody, Vic, Tony, Ashley and Brent. Extended family Steve Parizek and his wife, Deb of West Liberty and Kirt Parizek and his special friend, Lis Wolf of West Liberty and special friends, Becky Knebel and Brian McIntire of West Liberty.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathleen in 1990.
