George Ashley "Bud" Brewer III, 78, Lt. Col. USAF Ret., passed away Dec. 21, 2011, suddenly after a lengthy illness. He was born October 8, 1933, in Dallas, Texas, to George A. Brewer, Jr. and Nellie Mae Price Brewer. Bud attended Highland Park High School, Dallas and graduated from Schriner Military Institute, Kerrville, Texas, and Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order Fraternity.

Upon graduation he was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the USAF and proudly served his country for 21 years. After tours at Gray AFB, Texas, Clark AFB, Philippines, Tyndall AFB, Florida, Tan Son Nhut, AB, Vietnam, Kadena, AB Okinawa, Hickam AFB, Hawaii, Tyndall AFB, Florida, and Eglin AFB, Florida, he retired in 1978 and made Fort Walton Beach their home.

Bud loved the Gulf (chasing after Cobia), the game of Golf, Whataburgers, antique guns, and Auburn Tiger Football. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Brewer, daughter, Becky McDonald and her husband Sonny, granddaughter, Ashley Throneberry, grandson, Tyler Throneberry, and nephew Winfrey L. Goldman of Fort Worth, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Barbara Goldman.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Parthenon Health Care, especially Angie, Cheryl, Dorothy, Brenda, Tina and Mitzi for their constant loving care for 6 years.

The family will receive friends at 10 a.m., one hour prior to the memorial service that will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Reverend Sterling Boykin officiating. A reception will follow immediately after the service in the fellowship hall. Internment with full military honors will be held at a later date at Barrancas National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 403 NW Racetrack Road, Fort Walton Beach, FL, 32547 or Covenant Hospice, 101 Hart St., Niceville, FL, 32578, or the charity of your choice. Expressions of sympathy may be viewed or submitted on line at www.emeraldcoastfuneralhome.com.

I worked with Bud for a few years in the '80s. I've always remembered what a nice person he was. Condolences to his family. It was a privledge to have know him and I'll always remember him fondly.
