George Alexander Killian

KILLIAN Mr. George Alexander Killian, 95, died Monday, April 14, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Hickory on June 28, 1912, son of Adolphus and Magdalene James Killian. The family moved to Winston-Salem when George was a young boy, and there he lived until his death. He received his education in the public schools and graduated from Reynolds High School and Draughon' s Business College. He worked for R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. for 35 years. George was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Headquarters Battery 772nd Field Artillery Battalion and honorably discharged with the rank of master sergeant major. On Dec. 20, 1952, he was married to Martha Mae Dillard, who preceded him in death in the year 2000. Also preceding him in death were his parents; and beloved brother, William James Killian. Survivors are his sister, Virginia Killian Spainhour; nieces Carolyn Spainhour Staley (husband Ron) of Richmond, Va., and Jo Ann Killian Mohr (husband Bill) of Sarasota. Fla.; and special great-niece, Amy Staley Kobb (husband Daniel), and Jonathan, Matthew and Lydia of Manquin, Va. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with his nephew, Pastor Ron Staley, officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will welcome friends one hour before the service.
