Glen was a very special person with whom I had infrequent conversations over the years, yet each one was very special! He was always a delight to chat with about APSCUF, SRU, students, and our lives. I always enjoyed our conversations, and believe that Glen felt similarly!
I was greatly saddened to learn of Glen's death, but heartened by the great legacy that he leaves his many students and colleagues. He was very special to me, and I know to his family and his many friends and students -- past and present.
My prayer is that he is now in a special place where he is loved and appreciated as he has been by so many here.
Sincerely, Larry Upton, Retired SRU Professor, Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology

I was truly blessed to have Prof. Brunken at Slippery Rock. My knowledge and love for the arts had really grown because of him and I was able to pass this down to my children; one of whom just graduated H.S. and received an award for outstanding 3D Art Student. Thanks Prof. Brunken. May you take many colors to the mansion where we shall all be reunited once again.

To Glen's family: My deepest sympathy to all of you at this very difficult time. Glen always had a kind word to offer, took time to share a conversation and was simply a wonderful person to know. I feel honored to have known him. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you for peaceful days and restful nights as you deal with your loss.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and past students of Prof. Glen Brunken. He had a tremendous impact on me during my time with SRU art. He single handedly made me a significantly better artist ten fold. One of the most kindest, caring, genuine people I ever had the honor of knowing and learning from. Brilliant artist, brilliant man. He will be forever loved, remembered and missed. God bless. -Brian Juda SRU class of 2009

To Glen's Family,
My heart aches for you during this time. Glen was a remarkable soul and his absence will be greatly missed on this planet. There was never a time when I saw him that I did not also see his smile, which always brought me comfort. He will be greatly missed in this community and never forgotten.
Today and always, may loving memories bring you peace. I feel I am a better person for having the distinct pleasure of knowing Glen Brunken.

Glen was truly a great teacher and great influence upon my life. I will always cherish the time that I was his student but in many ways, I will always be his student. I saw him last in 1999. I hope that Glen's family know how loved he was by many who had the privilege of studying with him.

Glen was a kind man, a fine professor, and I am endebted to him for helping me get my first teaching job at a college. He showed me how to fix my resume. He made a difference in my life, as he did in the lives of countless others. Thank you, Glen. My condolences to his family.

To Glen's family and friends, Glen was a true "gentle" man...gentle in heart, in words, and always willing to help a friend, student, or stranger in need. Glen was a very dear friend of Dutch Smith, and Glen was often a dinner guest in our home. Now, they are together, and sharing stories of Moraine Sportsman Club, Castle Club, and the stories of times shared together in friendship. To Glen's family, I extend my deepest sympathy for a life taken by such a tragic accident. A wonderful man, gone to soon.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
