Graeme was born in Kelwood, Manitoba on February 15, 1915, the eldest child of the Reverend David Howarth and his wife, Leah. They moved to Calgary in approximately 1928 where he attended Crescent Heights High School. After high school he graduated from Normal School and then he later obtained his Education degree from The University of Alberta, Edmonton. He taught in various locations throughout Alberta, two of which were Pilot Mound and Dogpound. Graeme married Audrey Dunlop of Coleman, Alberta in 1940. He signed up for the Air Force before W.W. II and served for the duration of the war. Following the war he started as an instructor at SAIT. He taught there for over 30 years and became Head of the Drafting Department. His family spent many years vacationing at Sylvan Lake, Alberta, where Graeme built a cottage, a rowboat and a 15-foot boat for cruising. Also, in 1956 the family moved into the home he built on the outskirts of the city across from a large field that is now The University of Calgary. He obtained his private pilot's license in 1964 and owned, reconstructed, and flew light airplanes for several years. Graeme married Polly Partin in 1968. They retired on Saturna Island in 1976 and spent twenty-four years commuting between Saturna Island and Victoria making strong friendships in both places and enjoying many wonderful years together. In the year 2000 Graeme and Polly reestablished their home in Calgary. Special thanks is extended to Dr. John Van Olm and the staff of the Newport Harbour Care Centre for their loving care. A Memorial Service will be held at St. David's United Church, 3303 Capitol Hill Crescent N.
