HERBERT COLKER, husband of the late Betty Galpin Colker and father of Larry, Steven, David, and Deborah Colker, passed away on Monday, July 4, 2016, at his home. He was 95. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on October 3, 1920, Mr. Colker moved to Huntington in 1946, after serving in the Army during World War II, in order to join his brother, Joseph, in business at West Virginia Electric Supply Company. Herb was an avid tennis player and golfer who looked for ways to contribute to the Huntington community. Whether it was Rotary, the Salvation Army, St. Mary's Hospitality House, the Boy Scouts, or B'nai Shalom Temple, Herb was often in the thick of things, trying to lend a hand and make things better. He and Betty, who enjoyed going to the opera together all their lives, celebrated their 73rd anniversary last August. Herb was a kind-hearted, optimistic man who never met a stranger, and he will be missed. Funeral services will be held at B'nai Shalom Temple (10th Ave. and 10th St.) on Sunday, July 10, at 1 p.m., to be followed by a graveside service and then a reception back at the Temple. All who knew and loved Herb and Betty are welcome. The family is requesting that all donations be made to the Huntington Salvation Army.

Oh Dear Colker Family ,all of you changed my life .
Steve and I were good friends during our teenage years and Mr. Hooverous always hollered at me for using too much ketsup . I really loved that hooverous grill ! but the family structure was so full of love . I didn't have a good family and that is why I looked up to all of you . thank you for allowing me to lean on your standards.
I think of your family always .

Bill Johnson: I believe in the Herb Colker philosophy. He passed from this earth on July 4, 2016 at age of 96. Herb's truism: If your golf ball is in the rough get it back in the fairway; if you can't find your golf ball, go back 20 yards; and finally never miss a chance to pee.
So as my number one salesman always said when asked to present his short and long term plans, "I'm going to show up everyday and do the best I can."
Works for me!!
Nora Johnson Herb and Betty were our heroes. I can't think of anybody who made more of and with their lives than these two. They lived and loved every minute to the fullest and couldn't live long without each other.

Prayers of comfort go out for the children of Herb & Betty - especially for my childhood friend & classmate (Marshall Lab / Huntington High) for 12 years - Deborah. May your hearts be healed from he pain from the loss of both of your parents in such a very short time - 3 months. Memories of Betty, so well dressed and smiling. Sue and I are terribly saddened by Herb's death and miss him and Betty. We "inherited"their friendship from my parents, and they always cared about us, traveling to be part of our family's simchas. We were so happy that they made a point of visiting us when they were in Israel. They were good and kind and optimistic people. May their memories be a source of happiness and strength to their family.

Herb and Betty led lives that were a shining example of what is good and right with our world. We are forever in their debt, which is exactly what they wouldn't want...but we love you both and miss you and will always remember you.

Sending Deepest sympathy and condolences to all of Herb and Betty Colker's family, friends, and loved ones.
The world is lessened by their passing ,but forever brightened by their memory.
A true example of living each day with love and kindness. Thankful for everything learned, about living a life of service and so much more, from Herb. I will always cherish every Minyan, Holiday, and times spent with them at B'nai Shalom.
I'm truly sorry I don't have better words to fully describe just how much they will be remembered, loved, and missed.

Herb was one of a kind - a special, kind, man who DID something when and wherever he saw a need. I am so sorry I can't be at the funeral, but as Herb said many times "with one tuchas, you can't be in two places". Rabbi David will represent our family.
