Jack Green Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 22 to Jun. 28, 2023.
On June 21, 2023, in Boston, MA, Jackson Calvin Green Jr. passed away peacefully from a devastatingly short bout with cancer. He was 66.

He is survived by immediate family including his wife of 35 years, Emily Nagle Green, his cherished daughter, Lydia Jane Green, and his sister-in-law Laura Nagle Bailey, nephew Ian Robert Bailey, and brother-in-law D. Shawn Wilson.

Jack was born in Morrilton, AR, the only child of Jackson Calvin Green Sr. and Geraldine Howard. The family moved to southern California when he was a child, and he grew up in El Monte, CA. He was granted a B. Arch from California State Polytechnic University of Pomona, CA, followed by an M. Arch from the University of California, Los Angeles.

He began his professional life as an architect, then contributed to the early days of computer-generated special effects for film and television, earning screen credits on several films. From there he moved to marketing computer-aided-design software. His final role, and the one he was most proud of, was as an extraordinary stay-at-home father and family manager.

In addition to his family, he is survived by a large circle of friends who regarded him as their authority on a wide variety of topics including fine wines, technology, bread-making, home renovation, houseboats, pesto and pork products. They loved his twinkly smile and marveled at his remarkable competence in whatever he tackled.

His joy for life, and his rare skills in living it, may have been most obvious in his travels. Besides several years living in and exploring Europe, he planned countless trips for family and friends through Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America, leading them to unique places and experiences they will never forget.

A celebration of his many legacies to those who loved him is planned for a later date. Those who wish to honor his life and death may consider a gift to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Rare Cancer Fund, or the Nursing & Patient Care Services fund at Mass General Hospital, where he was briefly but so beautifully cared for.

Jack was an amazing husband to Emily and father to Lydia. He was a role model to me as a Dad, as a husband, as a man. He took being 'worldly' to another level.

I'm proud to have called Jack a friend for the past 25 years. He was like my big brother, offering guidance whenever I asked, and I asked a lot!

This past decade I think I spent the most time with Jack at Fenway Park, or mapping out our Red Sox season ticket group, or being miserable talking about how awful the Red Sox were playing.

We shared dozens of nights at Fenway, including a few World Series victories. I'll always remember Jack smiling about the victories. He knew how to live life to the fullest and was immensely generous in sharing his time.

My heart goes out to Emily and Lydia, and I hope to celebrate Jack soon.

Jack lived an amazing life and leaves a sudden and devastating void for Emily and Lydia and everyone he touched. I will always remember and appreciate his twinkling eyes and his generous and kind spirit. Sending love and sympathy.

I am more than grateful and honored to have so many memories of friendship with Jack, aka Captain Jacques. Whether Jack was captain of of his canal boat in Amsterdam or of ours in Canal du MIDI there was always laughter. Jack was the `go to´ person for planning any adventure, be it close to home or far away places. I am so fortunate to have traveled with Jack and Emily to some great places where we shared a love of exploring and learning about history, as well as a love of great wine and great food. These times together have provided me with great memories, memories that I am clutching tightly to my heart and will never let go of. Jack was truly a renaissance man! Thank you Captain Jacques for more than you know.
