Jasanda Danna Watson

Jasanda Watson, 78, of Comfort, Texas, in the loving arms of her husband and children, passed away on July 27, 2023 after a rich life devoted to her family.

Jasanda is survived by her husband of 33 years, Nick Watson; her children, David McCardle of Houston and Dina Stephenson of Dallas; her daughter-in-law, Greta, and her son-in-law, Todd; the seven grandchildren she adored: Hayden, Bennett, Maggie, Nicholas, Lillian, Sophie, and Nora; and her sister Cathy Danna. Jasanda was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Wanda Danna, and her sister Melinda McCurdy.

Born in Dallas, Texas in 1944, Jasanda attended primary schools in the Park Cities, but in a nod to the independence she would display throughout her life, Jasanda ventured out of state for high school. She graduated from Mount de Chantal Visitation Academy in Wheeling, West Virginia in 1963. She worked as a flight attendant for Braniff Airways in the mid-60's, before her children were born.

The remainder of Jasanda's life was devoted to her children. She strove to create a home that felt safe and comfortable. Through her unwavering love, her staunch idealism, her honest empathy, and her tenacious independence, she taught her children what it means to be people of principle.

Life is a circle, and for Jasanda it brought back a childhood friend. Jasanda and Nick Watson were married in 1990, opening a new chapter in each of their lives. After a decade among the islands of the Caribbean, Jasanda and Nick settled in Comfort, Texas, where they would plant new roots, make a new home, tend new gardens, and nurture new friendships. Jasanda took great pride in her home in Comfort, especially her beloved garden, in which she worked even unto the end. She enjoyed cooking with her grandchildren, reading, travel, rug hooking, and the friendships she made in the pursuit of those activities. The people whose lives she touched will feel profound loss, yet will be comforted with fond memories.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 pm on Sunday, August 13th the Gaddis United Methodist Church in Comfort, Texas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Comfort Public Library, P.O. Box 536, Comfort, Texas 78013, or the ALS Association of Texas at alstexas.org.
