John Broughton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 7, 2015.
Our brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather went home to our Heavenly Father on April 28, 2015. John Claude Broughton, age 83, left behind a legacy of love and fun.
He married his eternal partner of 35 years, Kathleen Birrell Broughton, on April 19, 1980. After retiring from the Salt Lake City Fire Department in May of 1985 he moved his family to his childhood farm in Christie, Oklahoma. The family moved to Vernal, Utah, June of 1995 where he lived until his death. He will always be remembered for his teasing, story-telling, and making everyone he met laugh. He was dedicated to his faith in the LDS Church and lived his life selflessly serving others.
He was preceded in death by Kermit Broughton (son), Connie Demerest (daughter), and David Demerest (grandson). He is survived by Kathleen Birrell Broughton (wife), Herbert Broughton (brother), Roger Demerest (husband of Connie), Tracey (Jeff) Presslar, Shelley (John) Da Ronche, Kevin (Karin) Broughton, Joanna (Jeff) Shields, Natalie Marrott, Steven (Sheralan) Marrott, Lorraine (Beau) Nielsen, Sarah (Brandt) Litton, 19 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, Saturday May 9, 2015. Viewings will be Friday, May 8th from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, May 9th 10:00-10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers we ask a donation be made to Intermountain Primary Children's Hospital where John's grandchild was saved at birth.

John always teased me when I came to visit and I always felt welcomed in his home. He was a fun person and I always saw that he cared very much for his kids. I remember him and Kathy taking us to Lagoon, to listen to the Tabernacle choir, and John taking us out for shooting practice. He was a kind man who raised my best friend, which I am forever grateful. I am glad that he is in a better place without pain. My condolences go out to all the family as no one else can fill that void of a loved one lost, but he really will live on in each of you. He is leading the way for his family to the next chapter. My love goes out to all of you at this time.

Kathy, Julie just told me today that your husband passed away I am so sorry for your loss. It is nice to have the knowledge of the plan of salvation, Life is Eternal. I may have met your husband but I'm sorry to say I don't have much memorie of him. Best wishes to you now and your future.

Dear Kathy my sweet sister, My heart broke when you brought John home to live his remaining days with you and it turned out only to be minutes. He was a great man and I will miss not having him say "how is madame hockshaw"today. I know you didn't want to let him go and it was so very hard on you, but he is at peace and not in pain, John will be watching over you all the time while you two are apart. I love you Kathy and Joanna, Steven, Natalie, Lorraine and Sarah and the rest of of family, I want you all to be at peace knowing your father was a wonderful dad and grandpa and loved his family dearly

Grandpa,
Though distance kept us apart, you were always and forever will be in my heart. I remember visiting you on the farm as a child, I was so amazed at how you drank milk straight from the cow. In my older years, I brought to you your first great grandson. The look of joy and pride on your face was so priceless. You knew the value of family. Your bear hugs and laughter will forever be in my memories. Rest in peace with our Heavenly Father until we meet again.
Love, Rachel and family (Keith, Ethan, Elias, and Eden)

"FINAL ALARM"
Rest now my brother firefighter
Lay soft your suffering back
Rest well and forever
Your memory shall not lack
Rest your tired hands
Wipe clean your weary brow
Rest with St. Florian
Your spirit now endowed
Rest here your heart
We know you gave your all
Rest easy, you've done your part
and now you've answered your last call
As we ring the final bell.

Daddy, you were my rock and my father. I'll always remember the laughter and the lessons. You taught by example.
