John A. Widdick

John A. "Jack" Widdick, 81, who resided in Dickson City with his daughter, Sandra and her husband, Michael, formerly of Scranton, died Saturday morning, July 19, 2014, at Moses Taylor Hospital, Scranton. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Joan McLaughlin.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Alfred and Jennie Widdick, nee Williams. Jack was a graduate of West Scranton High School and a member of Holy Rosary Church. He served in the Navy during the Korean War and later became a member of American Legion Post 665. Prior to retirement, Jack was employed as a maintenance supervisor at Thomson Electronics, GMB Battery and Sandvik Steel.

Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Kuchwara and husband, Michael, Dickson City; and Cheryl Catts and husband, Gary, Mullica Hill, N.J.; grandchildren, Jennifer and John Kuchwara, Colin and Kayla Catts; and great-grandchild, Emily Kuchwara; brother, Lester "Wayne" Hicks, Fort Hill, S.C.; nieces and nephews.

Jack was also preceded in death by a daughter, Susan; brother, Robert; and sisters, Lucille Hicks and Marge Boas.

Jack was a wonderful husband, a loving father, grandfather and father-in-law, and his family was so fortunate to have him in their lives. He was a faithful Giants and Cardinals fan, an avid golfer and bowler, and a lifelong lover of life. Jack's family would like to extend its thanks to the nurses of the Sacred Heart Hospice, especially Lynn and Ellen, and nurse Jennifer at the Gino Merli Center.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home Inc., 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City, with Mass at 9:30 in St. Mary's Visitation Church, Dickson City. Interment will be at Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Twp.
