ANDREWS, Joseph (Joel) Lyon Jr. MD Joseph (Joel) Lyon Andrews, Jr. MD, of Lincoln, MA, died on April 24, 2023 at age 85. Beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. Joel was a caring physician, as well as a prolific author, teacher, activist and passionate history buff. Descendant of early Jewish settlers to NYC in the 1690s and of Jewish Patriots who supported and fought in the American Revolution. Joel was born in New York City, grew up in Scarsdale, NY, and spent his adult years in Boston, Newton, Concord, and Lincoln MA. Served as a doctor in the U.S Air Force Medical Corps during the Vietnam War. Founder and past chair of the Pulmonary Section at the New England Deaconess Hospital. Public health champion and pioneer at the forefront of advancing smoking cessation programs and no-smoking policies in the 1970s. Practiced internal and pulmonary medicine for many years at Lahey Clinic, in Boston and Burlington, MA. Conducted clinical research and taught as an assistant clinical professor and lecturer in medicine at Harvard and Tufts Medical Schools. Founder of historical tour guide company in Concord, MA, where he hosted visitors from around the world. Author of guidebooks on Revolutionary Boston history and Literary Concord authors.
