Laura M. Grover, 83, of Idaho Falls, passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at her home following a brave fight with cancer.
Laura was born Dec. 31, 1927, in Driggs, Idaho, to Robert and Mary Eliza Mackley. She grew up in the Driggs area with four sisters, Roberta, Genevie, Mable and Carrie; and one brother, David Mackley. She attended Teton High School, graduating in May 1946. She attended Ricks Academy in 1947 and majored in home economics.
At the young age of 6, she met her eternal companion, Hart L. Grover. On June 2, 1948, they were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Together they had five children: Dannie (Karla) Grover of Idaho Falls; Rita (Paul) Wells of Shelley, Idaho; Don (Kayleen) Grover of Laurel, Mont.; Susan (Dayle) Barrow of Rigby, Idaho; and Rex Grover of Kennewick, Wash. They have 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
They lived their lives throughout Utah and Idaho. She was an active member of the LDS church, serving in many capacities, including camp director, Cub Scouts and various church callings. Her last calling was door greeter, which Hart and Laura enjoyed together. They enjoyed camping and fishing, but most of all time spent with her loved ones. She was patient, loyal and compassionate and a person who we all strive to be like. She spent her days busy growing plants in her garden. It could be said she could grow anything in any climate.
She is survived by her husband, Hart L. Grover; all their children; two sisters, Mable Bevan of Rexburg and Genevie Kunz of Victor, Idaho; and one brother, David Mackley Jr. of California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mary Eliza Mackley; sisters, Roberta Ringel, MaryLou Harrison and Carrie Roesberry; and one great-grandchild, Shelby Lynn Hess.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 4, at the St. Leon LDS Chapel, 6925 N. 15th East in Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3, and from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to services, both at the church. Burial will be in Sugar City Cemetery under the care of Eckersell Memorial Chapel in Rigby.
