Lloyd Lewell Phelan FLORENCE - Lloyd Lewell Phelan, 80, of Florence, died Thursday, January 28, 2010 in a Florence hospital after an illness. Mr. Phelan was born in Cleveland, Ohio a son of the late James and Mabel Phelan. He was a US Army veteran. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart having been wounded in action during the Korean War. He retired after 34 years with AT&T and was a member of the Catholic faith. He loved bowling and was a member of the Senior Bowling Team at All Star Lanes and at the Southgate Bowling Alley. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-son, Dennis Ruzicka; brother, Donald Phelan and sister, Mabel Phelan. Surviving are his wife, US Marine Lance Corporal Mary Catherine Ritchie Phelan of Florence; step-children, Raymond (Laurie) Ruzicka of Chester, Virginia; step-grandchildren, Shaun Withrow of Florence, Krystalyn Webber of Chester, Virginia and Allyson Lancaster of Green Sea, SC. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 181 E. Evans Street, BTC Suite 200, Florence, SC 29501. Graveside services will be held at 12:00 Noon, Monday, February 1, 2010 in the Florence National Cemetery directed by Stouden-mire - Dowling Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 PM Sunday, January 31, 2010 at Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
