The world has lost a beautiful soul. The Memorial for
Margaret is a fitting tribute to her life. I'm so glad I had the pleasure of knowing her. She was truly a southern lady.
I extend my deepest sympathy to Paul and family.

I had the great fortune of Mrs. Pinckney for UT freshman English in 1989. She was wonderful. After all of these years, I still remember her so clearly when I can barely remember many of my other professors. To this day, I constantly hear her beautiful slow-rolling southern accent in my head, giving me advice when I'm writing something of importance. Her love of the English language *and* UT football made the class a delight. My alma mater was so lucky to have her enriching its students with the gift of communication. She was a true Volunteer. Now, I have no doubt she's in a place where every day is game day.

The Pinckneys lived across the street from the Osbornes for many decades and were enormously influential in our lives. Our parents were colleagues at the university; Paul and Margaret's student party was an event we rarely missed. Margaret hired my sister Laurie and me for our first baby-sitting job and we took care of several generations of cats when the family vacationed. Margaret was unfailingly elegant, charming, and hospitable; I remember her house smelling like baking spices. My deepest condolences to Paul, David, Mary, Alice, and the grandchildren, whom Margaret adored. Wishing you all warm memories of your lovely Margaret this bittersweet holiday season.

Margaret was such a wonderful teacher! She enjoyed the subject matter so much, her students were very soon completely engaged with it! And, she was utterly charming, a real Southern lady. I loved her. Prayers for the comfort of her family.
