Nancy Elliott Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 28, 2023.
Nancy Lucille Elliott (nee Stark) entered God's loving embrace June 4, 2023, signing off on 94 years of, in her words, "a life well-lived."

The model of 'how ought we to live' was developed the day Nancy was born to the late Gustav Carl Stark and Hilda Ung, January 26, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. Despite entering the world at the onset of the longest and deepest downturn in the history of the United States, beginning in 1929 and ending during World War II in 1941, Nancy carried the highest levels of optimism, never to be broken by life events that would have bankrupted the spirit of even the hardiest of some.

A graduate of Senn High School on Chicago's North Side, Nancy was trained as a Nurse at Presbyterian St Lukes Hospital. She met and married Robert "Bob" Alfred Elliott (deceased 1984) in 1952 while enrolled in classes at North Park College. Bob, in her presence, was rife with confidence into thinking he was a charming, handsome, young Army AirCorp pilot. He was not wrong. Bob was on the GI Bill, fresh off WWII service. It is fairly easy for us to understand how he convinced our mother, an exceedingly proud but humble woman and a pillar in her community, to grasp hands and give it a go...in her (and his) words, "without a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of". Together they raised two daughters: Patricia and Susan and two sons: Douglas and James. She will forever be remembered for her kind willingness to help anyone, anytime, anywhere. She enjoyed her friends, especially Jane Cory...the two of them teaching Sunday School at First Presbyterian for nearly a 1/2 century.

She is survived by four Children - Patricia Lynn Watkins of Lakewood, Colorado; Douglas Ogden Elliott (Marcela) of Houston, Texas; Susan Elizabeth Elliott of Lisle, Illinois; James Matthew Elliott (Helen) of Sydney, NSW, Australia; Sister-in-law, Nancy Novit of Chicago; Niece, Nancy-Ann Novit of Highland Park, IL, Nephew, Kent Novit of Lake Forest IL, and six grandchildren, Barbara, Matthew, Cameron, Emma, Zoe, and Oscar.

Nancy is preceded in death by her husband, Bob Elliott, father Carl Gustav Stark, biological mother Hilda, Stepmother Edith, brother Robert Stark, and sister in childhood, Sonja Stark.

Memorial services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, Glen Ellyn, IL on June 29 from 3-4 pm with reception following from 4-6pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks any/all donations be made to the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry, 493 Forest Avenue, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137 or https://glenellynfoodpantry.networkforgood.com/projects/26729-general-fund
