Nellie Ruth Curtis

Nellie Ruth Curtis, 72, of Eufaula, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at the Checotah Manor Nursing Home. Nellie was born on October 6, 1936, in Checotah, Oklahoma, the daughter of Charles and Aulcia (Farmer) Hooten, Sr. She graduated from Eufaula High School. On March 2, 1957, Nellie married Don Curtis. He preceded her in death on August 17, 2007 after fifty years of marriage. Nellie worked for the Army Ammunition Plant and Wortham's Insurance Company, but she spent over thirty years working for the Kelsoe's at both Cedar and Checotah Manor. Nellie enjoyed working crossword puzzles, studying bible lessons and going to the Dollar Tree. Her greatest love was her grandchildren and great grandchildren.Survivors include: her sons, Ron Curtis and wife Cindy of Eufaula and Scott Curtis and wife Angela of Dallas; her daughter, Donna Hysell and husband Vernon of Eufaula; her brothers, Paul Hooten and wife Wilma of Eufaula and Bill Hooten and wife Sherry also of Eufaula, nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 2, 2009, at the Eufaula Church of Christ with Minister Charlie Bailey officiating. Pallbearers will be Beau Magreevy, Matt Magreevy, Josh Hysell, Colton Heath, Devan Edwards, and Josh Hooten. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Grant, Bill Hibbert, Bob Joplin, James Moudy, Les Hall, Melvin Clover, Charles Hammett, Sr. and Jimmy Beller. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Hunn, Black and Merritt Funeral Home and Crematory.
