Olon L. Ruis, 81 of Carrabelle, FL, died peacefully Monday, Sept 18 at Big Bend Hospice House.

Born October 1 1935, in Worth County Georgia, he was the son of Olon Augustus Ruis and Hattie Littleton Parrish. Olon attended Valdosta High School, and then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953- 1973 with active service throughout the U.S., including Hawaii, England and Resolution Island Canada as a Tech Sargent. His career duties included Teletype Mechanic, Electronic Communication and Cryptographic Equipment Technician and Flight Supervisor. After he retired from the Air Force, he spent his time in the in the woods of Tate's Hell or in his home on Lake Talquin. He enjoyed fishing on the Crooked and Ochlocknee Rivers in Carrabelle or on Lake Talquin in Leon County, FL with his beloved Chris and a few good friends. He loved milk in the morning, "a cold beer" in the early afternoon and driving in the woods he had come to know like the back of his hand.

Mr. Ruis is survived by his love for over 30 years, Christine Hiers Chason Cross. Her children; Debby L. Mitchell, James D. Georgieff and Melissa A. Champany. Her grandchildren; Michael Mitchell, Mark Mitchell, Cormac Champany and Madeline Champany and the sister that loved him, Jan Dalton (Randy).
He is proceeded in death by his parents, Olon Augustus Ruis and Hattie Littleton Parrish and the brother he loved, William (Billy) Owens.

A celebration of life will be held, Sunday Oct 1 at the Womack Creek campsite off Jeff Sanders Road, Carrabelle at 11:00 a.m. Following the celebration of life, friends and family will gather at Harry's Bar in Carrabelle to honor Olon.

Donations can be made to the Big Bend Hospice.
