CHICOPEE - Phyllis R. (Mandeville) Nowak, 81, of Chicopee, died April 3 at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield. Phyllis was a retired cafeteria worker for the Chicopee Public School System for many years. Born in Holyoke on August 27, 1921 the daughter of the late Norbert and Evelyn (Campagna) Mandeville, she was a lifelong resident of Chicopee. She was a 1939 graduate from Chicopee High School and a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, Chicopee. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Edward D. Nowak, who died February 14, 2003. She is survived by 2 sons, Edward N. Nowak of Hudson, Ohio, Francis W. Nowak of Bristol, Rhode Island; 3 daughters,Phyllis Garfield of Easthampton, MA, Holly Rutkowski of Chicopee, MA, Lori Blatnick of Ballston Lake, New York; 2 brothers, Norbert Mandeville of South Hadley, MA, Arthur Mandeville of North Carolina; 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be Monday morning, 8:45 a.m. at Tylunas Funeral Home, 159 Broadway, Chicopee, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, Chicopee. Burial in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Chicopee. Visiting hours are Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Baystate Medical Center Intensive Care Unit c/o Brunella Before, 759 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01199.
