Roland Anderson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 14 to May 16, 2016.
Roland Anderson 1928-2016 Our family is sad to announce the passing of Roland Frank Anderson on May 3, 2016. Roland was born in London, England, in 1928, to Frank William Anderson and Doris G. Anderson. After grammar school he joined the Royal Navy at age 17, and later emigrated to Canada, taking a job in a camera shop in Calgary. He soon enrolled in the University of British Columbia, and went on to complete a master's in English at the University of Wisconsin and a PhD at the University of Toronto. He would go on to become a highly-respected professor and chair of English at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. In recent days, many former colleagues have written in remembrance of Roland's wisdom, fairness, and compassion as an academic leader. He was also a great dad, helping his wife Linda Woodbridge raise her two daughters from early childhood. We fondly recall his liveliness and wit. He and Linda retired to Missoula, Montana, in 2011.

Roland is survived by his son Douglas; his brother Douglas and his wife Joan, his niece Deborah, nephew David, and David's two children Daniel and Holly, all of England; his loving wife Linda and step-daughters Dana Fitz Gale (with her husband John and sons Nathaniel and Liam, of Missoula) and Rachel Prusko (with her husband David and daughters Emma and Malory, of Edmonton). Celebrations of life will be held at Ten Spoon Winery in Missoula and on June 14 at 4:00 at the Faculty Club at the University of Alberta.

"He was a man, take him for all in all. We shall not look upon his like again."
