Sharon Barber Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 2, 2017.
Ms. Sharon Barber was born on June 12, 1942 in Buffalo, New York, where she lived until 1997. After retiring from a First and Second grade teaching position for over thirty years, she moved to Mesa, AZ, a place she loved. After visiting the area several times during her summers, she finally ha the chance to fulfill her dream. She packed up and left Buffalo full of Joy and hope.

Ms. Barber has traveled to Europe, Hawaii, Australia, and driven across the USA several times, often by herself. Her concern for people gave her "the opportunity" (as she said) to offer financial help to many in need. Yet, she never took credit for it, as she was a strong believer in God and Jesus Christ is her Lord and Savoir. By trusting in God and working hard, she was able to acquire a Master's degree in Education by working three part time jobs and going to college full time. Still, she always gave the credit to God.

Sharon Barber is preceded by the death of both of her parents and a younger brother, G. Paul Barber, as well as a sister-in-law, Terry Barber. She has a younger sister, Kathy Barber Hughes (Henry) and a younger brother, Dan Barber. Although she never had children of her own, Ms. Barber did have two lovely nieces: Jocelyn McKim and Tricia Barber Ramirez (Ramon); a great niece, Cassie Porto (Mark) and great nephew, Zachary McKim, as well as two great-great nephews and a niece. Also, two nephews: James MacRae (Jean), and John Barber (Mary) and four more great nephews, Alex, Jacob, Ryan, Ronan and great niece, Juliana.

She will be greatly missed and always loved.

My dear Aunt Sharon...how sad I am to learn of your passing as I searched for you and found your obituary. Decades ago, my Mom, Rose Ifflander, and Sharon attended college in pursuit of their elementary education degrees. Aunt Sharon used to visit us in FL as she always enjoyed getting away from Buffalo's winters. I remember her taking beach sand back to Buffalo! So many fond memories of Aunt Sharon. I still have some of the children's books she gave me from my childhood. Soo sad we didn't have a reunion before it was too late. Sending loving prayers to your family, Aunt Sharon.

Sharon was a wonderful, loyal and dear friend. I didn't hear from her at Christmas or my birthday or Easter.I was going to call her to tell her Happy Birthday because of Dennis being sick I didn't send a card. There was no answer.I googled her name and see she has passed away. We met in Lenscrafters when we were both waiting for our glasses. She said we have to wait at least an hour, how would you like to join me for lunch.Dennis and I both liked her and said sounds great. We were very close friends for the 3 yrs that followed when we lived in Mesa. When we returned to CA we kept in touch via letters, emails and phone calls. The picture used on her obituary is one I had taken at our home in Mesa. Sharon said it was her favorite picture of her. She will always have a special place in my heart. She adored Dennis Gray. Sharon was a single retired school teacher. She was so much fun.

Sharon was a friend of my mom's. Though I had never met her, she was faithful in sending us Christmas cards and birthday cards to my children. When she said she was praying for us, I knew she meant that. I'm so sorry to hear of her passing, and am sad I will never meet her this side of heaven.

We have fond memories of Sherrie and so glad she had what appears to be 20 wonderful years of retirement in Arizona. We're not surprised by her generosity.
