Thomas Saffle Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 24, 2014.
Thomas Allen "Tom" Saffle died peacefully in Port St. John Florida on Sept. 23, 2014 at the age of 53.

Tom is survived by his Mother, Helen Saffle of Whitehall, OH, wife of 12 years; Connie (Uhl) Saffle, son: Andrew (Amy) Saffle, grandsons: Christian, Jacob and Jase Saffle of Havelock, NC, his daughter: Stephanie Saffle of Whitehall, OH, brother David (Karen) Saffle of Dublin, OH, nieces; Carrie (Paul) Busker, Allison Saffle, Katie (Eric) McKinney, great niece and god-daughter; Scarlett McKinney, all of Central OH., his Aunt Wilma Lovejoy of Lake Chippawa, OH, and many cousins, whom he loved

He is also survived by mother in law; Gloria Uhl, sisters and brothers in law: Debbie (Jeff) Groves, Sugar Grove, OH, Susie (Dave) Phillips, Cocoa, Florida, Jeannie (Steve) Lavey, Sugar Grove Mary (Melvin) Morris, Mike (Donna) Uhl, Pat Uhl, Tom (Shelly) Uhl all of Lancaster, OH, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a great-great niece of Lancaster and Marion, OH, St. Petersburg, and Titusville, Fl, Wisconsin and Alaska.

His father, CSGM Kenneth M. Saffle and his sister Kelly A. Saffle of Columbus, OH, aunts and uncles precede him in death.

Tom was born November 22, 1960 in Wurzburg, Germany to Master Sgt. Kenneth and Helen Saffle. He graduated from St. Phillips The Apostle Elementary and Whitehall Yearling High School in Whitehall, OH, class of 1978, where he made and continued close friendships. Tom also graduated from Columbus State Community College. His work career started with the Kroger Company, Thermo King, ENV Services, Transreefco, Yenkin Majestic and finally his dream job, with Telesis Technologies in Circleville, OH. Tom's job as Senior Technical Service Engineer took him all over the world. In the past 13 years, he had the privilege of visiting foreign countries, including China, Japan, France, England, Germany, Switzerland, Mexico and South Korea and over 500 cities in the United States. In traveling for his job he was given the ability to see many sites and wonders of the world. The job became as much a lifestyle as it was a career; he was very fortunate to share it with his family and his coworkers.

He was an active and dedicated member of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Cocoa, FL where he volunteered as an usher. Tom and Connie were former members of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Buckeye Lake, when they lived in Millersport, OH.

Tom was a devoted and loving husband, father and friend. He took great pride in his work and was a jack-of-all-trades, his handiwork is visible in everything he did and all of the homes he remodeled, especially his last one in Florida.

Tom has always been an avid boater. It was his dream to always live on the water. Tom and Connie got to experience water living for a couple of years at their house on Buckeye Lake. While they enjoyed it, they dreamed of warmer climates and a much big body of water to boat around in. In 2012, they took the plunge and moved to Florida. This move was their dream and Tom luckily got to spend his remaining days in his paradise.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of St. Francis, Inc., 1250-B Grumman Place, Titusville, Florida 32780.

I first met Tom in biology class when we were juniors at Whitehall-Yearling High School. but it wasn't until the past few years that i really got to know him So it stunned me when he told me the news of his illness on his last visit to San Francisco earlier this year. It ended up being the last time I saw him. I loved how much he reached out to other classmates whenever they came to Florida. You left us way too soon, Tom. My deepest condolences to Connie and the Saffle family.

Connie and family, Through all the years in Whitehall schools, I never realized that Tom and I were both born only a few months and miles apart in Germany and that we both went to Catholic Elementary schools, before heading to Whitehall. I would have loved to talk to him about all of it. I was glad we were able to see you both at the reunion. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
