Obituary

Warren Austin, 78, of Erskine, MN, passed away on Sunday (April 9th) at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine. Warren C. Austin was born on September 1, 1927 to G.U. and Grace (Warren) Austin in Rugby, North Dakota. He graduated from Rugby High School in 1945. He served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on August 6, 1946. Warren attended Wahpeton State School of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota. From there he joined his father in the family business, Rugby Sheet Metal and Plumbing. Warren was united in marriage to Doris Irene Brager on April 17, 1949. They raised their four children in Rugby, North Dakota. Warren was active in the Jaycees, the North Dakota Horse Show Association, Masonic Lodge, and the North Dakota Plumbing Association. Warren and Doris moved to Anacortes, Washington in 1986 where he continued to work as a plumbing and heating contractor. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church in Rugby and active in the Lutheran Church in Anacortes. After his wife passed away, Warren moved to Erskine, Minnesota to be with his daughter, Jamie. He was much loved wherever he went for his gentle smiles and his friendly winks. He was a quiet Christian and through his love he touched us all. Survivors include his children, Kevin (Joyce) Austin of Grand Forks, ND, Kory Austin of Mount Vernon, WA, Nancy (Stephen) Kotalik of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Jamie Austin (Randy Cook) of Erskine, MN; six grandchildren, Brandon (Katie) Austin, Angela (Nate) Shilman, Jill Lagasse, Sarah Lagasse, Abigail Austin, and Derek Austin; two great grandsons, Jacob and Lucas Shilman; four sisters, Norma Schiff of Rugby, ND, Betty Spaulding of Goleta, CA, Margaret Williams of Fountain Valley, CA, and Phyliss (John) Sheffield of Cut Bank, MT. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; his parents; and two brothers. Memorials are preferred to the Pioneer Memorial Care Center at 23028 347th St. SE, Erskine, MN 56535. Sympathy messages may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday (April 13th) at the United Methodist Church in Erskine with the Rev. Lois Ball officiating. Interment will be in Tahoma National Cemetery of Kent, WA. Registration will be for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Bailey-Throne American Legion Post #596 of Erskine. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine is in charge of the arrangements.
