Wenona Schoolcraft Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 8, 2017.
Wenona B. Schoolcraft, 91, of Swanzey, NH, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, at the Genesis Keene Center.

Wenona was born September 30, 1926, in East Andover, NH, the daughter of Ellen (Hersey) and Otis Schoolcraft. She was "born again" through faith in Jesus Christ in August of 1941 at Camp Joy in Rumney, NH, and dedicated her life to Christ then.

In 1944, Wenona graduated from Andover High School and that fall attended Providence Barrington Bible College from which she graduated in 1947. Providence Barrington later became a part of Gordon College of Theology and Missions. Wenona studied education at Houghton College, 1947-1949, in Western NY and then transferred to Keene State College, Keene, NH and graduated in 1951. In the summer of 1955, Wenona studied biology and other sciences with Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL, working at their science station in the Black Hills of South Dakota. In the summer of 1988 Wenona studied Church History in Europe with the Gordon College Alumni Group and spent several summers after studying and working in England and Europe.

After graduation in 1951 from Keene State, Wenona taught grades 5-8 in Canterbury, NH. For the next three years, she taught third grade in Tilton, NH. In the fall of 1955, she taught fourth grade and Elementary Science at the Dame School in Concord, NH, until 1958.

In the fall of 1958, Wenona was called by the Lord to serve with Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) of Northern NH, based in Conway, NH. In 1962, she moved with her mother to Berlin, NH, and continued with CEF to teach Good News Club, train teachers, and work with the churches of Northern NH. In the summer of 1965 Wenona attended the three-month Child Evangelism Fellowship Institute in Muskegon, MI. In 1978, Miss Winnie (as she was known by many) moved to Keene, NH to be the Southwestern local director for CEF of NH. In 1984, she graduated from CEDOT (from CEF in Stroudsburg, PA) and continued working with CEF in Southwest NH. In 1992, she moved to Greeley, CO and served as CEF local director of Northern CO for 6 years. In 1998, Miss Winnie moved back to Keene, NH and worked again in the Southwestern part of NH. On November 1, 2005, she moved to volunteer in her retirement at CEF Headquarters in Warrenton, Missouri with the CEF Mailbox Club Ministry and CEF of East Central MO. In December of 2016, she returned to live in the Keene area. Miss Winnie served the children of the US and the world and many others with her faithful prayer throughout her lifetime.

Wenona is survived by her sister-in-law, Jeanne Schoolcraft of Manchester, NH; her niece, Betty Burke and husband, John, of Manchester, NH; and her nephew, Bobby Schoolcraft and wife, Joya, of Cape Coral, FL; as well as her daughter-like friend, Sharon Skinner of Keene, NH; and many cousins, nieces, and friends. Wenona is preceded in death by her father, mother, brothers, and sister. To her family and friends, she will be loved and remembered for her own personal devotion for the Lord and for her joy in teaching children the Truth of the Gospel.

A memorial service will be held at Sturtevant Chapel, 15 Washington Avenue, Keene, NH, on Friday, November 17, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Stephen Aldrich officiating. Memorial gifts may be made out to: CEF of NH, PO Box 146, Concord, NH 03302 or to CEF Inc., PO Box 348, Warrenton, MO 63383.

She helped train me to teach Good News Clubs in the 70's. She was a dear friend to our family (the Spillers) in Hill, NH. She cared. She lived what she believed. She was gracious. You couldn't be around her but only a few minutes, only to realize her deep dedication to the Lord Jesus. A true soldier in the faith.

Hello Sharon Skinner.
My Wife Cheri before she past. used to take care of Winnie. to make sure after her knee operation and other times, that she could depend on us to take her any where when she couldn't drive. But she was determined, especially when we would see her at Child Evangelism Fellowship, there she loved to work with children, teaching them about Jesus. I have surly missed her since she moved from our villas. But now she is really enjoying heaven I'm sure.
Seems memorials should go to Grace Bible Church. Praying for you Sharon to have peace in your time of grieving. God Bless! Charley Notz

I am so very sorry to hear of Wenona's passing to be with the Lord. I was very fortunate to have her as my 3rd grade teacher when we lived in NH. She was, by far, the best and kindest teacher I have ever had. She oversaw a Good News Club in our home. She helped by brother with his reading. I remember going berry picking at her house. I was able to find her mailing address and had been corresponding with her for many years. She will be missed by everyone who had the opportunity to know her.

Winnie was a true servant of the Lord. It was great to see her at CEF's International Headquarters as a volunteer, serving the Lord and CEF with all her heart. She will be greatly missed but will always be an example to all of us as one completely dedicated to God and to His children.

I met Winnie when I moved to Missouri to serve with Child Evangelism Fellowship. Winnie was an active volunteer at CEF, and was passionate about teaching the Bible to children. Her longtime service spanned over 50 years of ministry. I loved being in her home and working on her computer. She had a mint plant in her garden, and she gave me sprigs of fresh mint. She was a gentle and kind soul, and lived for Christ. She truly is in a better place with her Savior.

I am sorry for your loss. I met Winnie through C.E.F. and found out that she and my husband went to school together in Andover as they both lived in E. Andover. It was a joy to know her, as she was with everyone she met and knew. Her dedication to the Lord and to the children has been a great blessing to see. Many lives have been brought to the Lord and been forever changed because of her service to the Lord.

We first met Winnie at Camp Good News in New Hampshire in 1979.She remained a very faithful prayer supporter of our work down the years. She always encouraged us with the mutual burden we had to reach the children. We thank our God for every remembrance of a dear sister in the Lord.

We are so indebted to Winnies's prayerful support for us down the years. We first met at camp Good News in New Hampshire in 1979. She encouraged us greatly by her burden for the children, and her prayer burden for ourselves and our family. We thank our God for every remembrance of a dear faithful servant.

Winnie was an amazing and faithful witness to the staff at the rehab facility and later the nursing home where she recovered from surgery some time ago, and to therapists and other helpers she met, and to her neighbors at Whispering Pines in Missouri. Her love for the Lord overflowed and she shared it naturally at every opportunity. Now she's in perfect health and worshiping her Lord in His presence, with joy!
