Sister Mary Ellen Brodeur

ADRIAN - Sister Mary Ellen Brodeur, formerly known as Sister Ann Edward Brodeur, died on Monday, Sept. 10, 2018, at the Dominican Life Center in Adrian, Mich. She was 90 years of age and in the 72nd year of her religious profession in the Adrian Dominican Congregation. Sister Mary Ellen was born in Detroit, Mich., to Edward and Ann (Ternes) Brodeur. She graduated from St. Joseph Academy in Adrian and received a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics from Siena Heights College (University) in Adrian and a Master of Arts degree in mathematics from the University of Detroit (University of Detroit
Mercy) in Detroit. Sister spent 50 years ministering in elementary and secondary education in Detroit, Harper Woods and Utica, Mich.; Toledo and Cleveland, Ohio; Chicago, Ill.; and Fort Lauderdale, Fla. This includes her ministry of 35 years in secondary education at two of the Congregation schools: six years at Hoban Dominican High School in Cleveland, Ohio, and 29 years at Dominican High School in Detroit. Sister became a resident of the Dominican Life Center in 2010.
Sister was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers, Donald, Norm, Charles and Robert; and four third cousins, Sisters Evangeline, Michael and Lambertine Theisen and Sister Leonilla Barlage, all Adrian
Dominican Sisters. Sister Mary Ellen is survived by loving nieces and her Adrian Dominican Sisters.
Welcome of Sister Mary Ellen will be at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018, in the Dominican Life Center Lobby; the Wake will follow from 6:15 to 7 p.m. in the Rose Room of the Dominican Life Center. The Reception of the Body and Vigil Prayer will be at 7 p.m. in St. Catherine Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Catherine Chapel at 10:30 a.m.
Monday, Sept. 17, 2018. The Rite of Committal will be in the Congregation cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Adrian Dominican Sisters, 1257 E. Siena Heights Drive, Adrian, MI 49221. Funeral arrangements are being
handled by Anderson-Marry Funeral Home, Adrian.
