John Hammann Obituary

ELIZABETHTOWN -- John Hammann, 59, died at his home on Saturday afternoon, May 8, 2004, after a brief illness. He was born in Woonsocket, RI. Mr. Hammann was the director of human resources for the Fort Knox (KY) Federal Credit Union, a position he held since retiring from the US Army as a lieutenant colonel after 26 years of service. While in the Army, he served in various posts in the US as well as in Europe and Vietnam. Mr. Hammann was preceded in death by his father, Charles G. Hammann; a brother, Charles G. Hammann Jr.; and a nephew, Nicholas Hendee, the son of his sisters, Mary Javarey. Mr. Hammann is survived by his wife of 38 yeas, Gail Margaret (Mucciarone) Hammann; his two sons, Anthony Hammann and Joshua Hammann, both of Louisville; and his daughter, Jane Kamm, his son-in-law, David Kamm, and two grandchildren, Jacob Nicholas "Spud" Kamm and Samantha Gail Kamm, of Haymarket, VA. Also surviving are his mother, Margaret E. Hammann of Lincoln, RI, and his brother, Richard Hammann, and his sisters, Mary Javarey and her husband, Norman Javarey, and Gretchen Guertin and her husband, Nelson, all of Woonsocket. Survivors also include two sisters-in-law, Dawn Coons and her husband, Edward, of Woonsocket and Beverly Tobin and her husband, Bentley, of Lincoln; a brother-in-law, John H. Mucciarone of Pascoag, RI; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend of the family, Kara Hunter. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at St. James Catholic Church on North Miles Street in Elizabethtown. A wake will be held from 3-8 p.m. Monday, May 10, 2004, at Brown Funeral Home. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend a wake from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2004, at Holt Funeral Home on South Main Street in Woonsocket. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, May 14, 2004, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Second Avenue in Woonsocket. Burial will be in St. Charles Cemetery in Blackstone, MA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Hammann's memory would be greatly appreciated to Habitat for Humanity of Hardin County, 1016 Pear Orchard Rd., Elizabethtown, KY 42701.
