Ruth Tate Obituary

TATE, RUTH ANN,

Ruth Ann Tate, 86 of Louisville, KY, passed from this world on July 14, 2016.

She was born in Nashville, TN, to the late Walter & Bettie Lee Page. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Joe W. Tate and her brother, Thomas W. Page.

To carry on her beautiful memory are her children, William "Buster" Tate (Leslie), Jo Ann McGuffin (Artie), and Brenda Raleigh (Steve); grandchildren, Mary, Matthew, Kristin, Brandon, and Joe; great grandchildren, Tyler, Campbell, Jamison, Adelynn and Jackson; as well as nieces, nephews and life-long friends - including her childhood friend Francis Underwood Durham.

Ruth spent her life in service to others through PTA/Booster Clubs (band and sports), Volunteer and/or Office Staff or just a fan in the crowd for Valley, Layne, and Eisenhower Elementary Schools, Stuart Junior, Middle and Senior, Shawnee, Butler Traditional and Valley High Schools and Spartan Youth Sports. She was a leader in scouting - Girls and Boys, active in her church, Bethany United Methodist - her chocolate pies were almost a ministry in themselves; and she was literally known across the world for her brownies. She loved country music and playing games. Spending time with her family was what she lived for.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 17, 2016 from 1-4 p.m. and a service to celebrate Ruth's life will be held on Sunday at 4:00 pm at W. G. Hardy Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 10907 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40272. She will be laid to rest in Bethany Cemetery next to her husband. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Bethany United Methodist Church.

Ruth was a dear friend. We rode to work at Shawnee High and became dear friends. I was so sorry that I missed her funeral as we were vacationing out of state with our family and missed the obituary till we arrived back home. She was a generous, helpful person. She helped serve food and cake at our son's outdoor wedding and was always ready to help anyone who needed assistance. I miss her! Margie Layman

Just found out today from Rita Arnold who also did not know till a few days ago , that Ruth had passed away. Last time I saw her was when I visited her at Elmcroft Center in her apartment. Ruth worked at Shawnee High with me and we shared carpooling together. I was on vacation with our family and missed the newspapers for several days in July and consequently did not learn of her passing till I was at a meeting with several ladies at St. Peter the Apostle Church today She was such a nice person and I so enjoyed working with her. We always enjoyed sharing family stories & she always made me feel like I could talk about anything with her. She was a "shoulder" to lean on when I was having problems with the job during our first years of busing to a downtown high school. I was delivering Meals on Wheels this week and as I drove by Elmcroft, thought I should make it a point to stop by and visit her real soon--not knowing she had already passed. I am sorry for your loss and will miss her dearly.
