William Conway Obituary

Conway, William Judson "Bill",

68, died April 1, 2016 after a long battle with cancer. Bill was born in Henderson, KY to Powhatan and Mary Stewart (Blackwell) Conway on September 16, 1947.

Bill graduated from St. Paul's School in Concord, NH, matriculated to Vanderbilt University, and completed his Bachelors in Economics at the University of Cincinnati.

Bill was active and vibrant, developing a passion for crew and winter sports early in life, later playing minor league ice hockey for the Louisville Blades. As a businessman, Bill started a broadcast network that provided weather and snow conditions, as well as lifestyle information for skiers to over 50 stations. The High Country Television Network was ultimately sold to Comcast Cable.

More important to him, however, was his status of devoted husband, father, friend, and community leader. Bill and Brenda (Sims) were married in 1980 and, together, raised their daughter, Susanna.

He served on the Louisville Coalition of Neighborhoods as well as on the Board of the Jefferson County League of Cities. Bill was also the Democratic Party candidate for District 7 Councilman in Louisville's First Metro Council election, and was the able and generous Mayor of Rolling Fields, KY for over 17 years.

Bill was a former member of the Louisville Country Club and the Wynn-Stay Club, making many friends on the golf course and at the backgammon table.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda; daughter, Susanna; brother, Powhatan (Susan); niece, Ceci Boden (Dale); nephew, Stewart (Karen); and other notable family, Mildred, Gary, and Maxwell Sims.

A Celebration of His Life will be 11am Wednesday at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church, 6710 Wolf Pen Branch Road, followed by a private burial at Cave Hill Cemetery. Visitation 4-7 pm Tuesday at Pearson's 149 Breckenridge Lane.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions can be made to the J. Graham Brown Cancer Center or Wayside Christian Mission.

Bill was always so kind to me. He was the first to contact me after I became Mayor to ask me about joining the Jefferson County League of Cities.
He was helpful and generous to all of us in JCLC. Will miss him, a lot!
Thoughts and prayers to all of his family.
Sherry S. Conner, Mayor, City of Shively

Bill, I hardly knew you. Although classmates at SPS, we had not much contact since although, reading the obit, we had lots in common. It is regrettable to me that I did not make more of an effort to stay in touch. You were a heck of a guy and I remember you in your Shattuck rowing blazer.
Row on Bill, I won't forget you.....
