CHELMSFORD - Walter E. Rowe Jr., 53, a longtime resident of Chelmsford who was a Navy veteran and a former Lowell Highlands resident, died Friday, Oct. 25, at his home. He was the husband of Martha C. (Grant) Rowe, to whom he was married for 31 years.
He was born in Lowell on March 27, 1949, the son Walter E. Rowe Sr. of Chelmsford and the late Dorothy F. (Nelson) Rowe. He grew up in the Highlands section of Lowell and graduated from Lowell High School in 1967.
Mr. Rowe enlisted in the Navy where he was assigned to the USS Natahala in Newport, R.I. He served two years during the Vietnam War, and then six years in the Navy Reserve.
He was employed at a sheet-metal shop owned by his uncle, Harlan Kelly, from 1973 to 1975. Prior to retirement, he was a project manager for 19 years at the former Digital Equipment Corp. for 19 years.
Besides his wife and father, he is survived by three children, Kristen Bertolino and her husband Dante of Derry, N.H., Amy Kelly of Nashua and Jason Rowe of Chelmsford; three grandchildren, Tommy Kelly, Cody Kelly and Isabella Bertolino; a brother, Tom Rowe and his wife Jayne of Harvard.
He was also the brother of the late Thena E. Sireen.
