Dennis Cadra Obituary

Dennis Cadra ODESSA-Born in Lubbock, Texas, Dennis Cadra found peace in heaven on Nov. 5, 2015, at the age of 68. A beloved husband, father, grandpa, and brother, he is survived by his caring wife of 47 years, Yvonne Cadra; sons, Stefan (Hillary) Cadra and Daniel Cadra; daughter, Kirsten (Stephen) White; grandchildren, Camille Cadra, Molly Cadra, Kylie White and Samantha White; and brother, Mike (Lynn) Barbian. Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, Godfrey and Marie Cadra. While in their late teens, Dennis and Yvonne met at Camp Lone Star in La Grange, Texas. After exchanging letters for several years, they wed on Aug. 24, 1968. Dennis earned his law degree from Texas Tech University in 1972 and was a prosecutor for 29 years, serving as past County and District Attorney for Andrews County and First Assistant District Attorney for Ector County. He dedicated his life to prosecuting criminals and bringing justice for victims. He was particularly passionate about advocating for and defending children who had been abused. He was held in high regard by his colleagues for his knowledge of the law, his ability to cite specific cases and his unwavering ethics. In his spare time, Dennis enjoyed telling detailed stories about his many life experiences, cracking jokes, reading books about historical events, the vastness and mysteries of outer space and political conservatives. He could often be heard coaching and refereeing Texas Tech games from the comfort of his recliner. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015, at Sunset Funeral Home in Odessa, 6801 E. Business 20 (Highway 80). A Memorial Service will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, at Grace Lutheran Church in Midland, 3000 W. Golf Course Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Permian Basin Area in Odessa and Lutheran Hour Ministries. Arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. To send family condolences please sign the guest registry at www.sunsetodessa.com.

I knew him! I liked him! He reminded me of a character that would have appeared in Animal House with John Belushi(sp?) - Bob Hoblit

Yvonne, my thoughts and prayers are with you and the family. Dennis was a brilliant, compassionate prosecutor. We should all strive to perform our jobs as ethically as he did.

Dennis was was such a joy to have a conversation with...he could make you laugh and cry in the same story. He was very intelligent and then he would break into a hilarious story and you knew when you saw him you would enjoy the evening. He loved his family and never failed to mention his wife and children and he loved prosecuting "bad guys," He could also save a case with his ability to write the law. Both and Andrews and Ector Counties have lost a friend.
