Dear Bette and Family, I was very sorry to hear of Lane's passing. He was a wonderful man, a devoted husband and father, and a dear and trusted friend to so many in our community.
Bette, you Lane and your children have always held a special place in the hearts of the Bikus family. The wonderful friendship Lane and my Dad developed, while working at the Telegraph, carried over to a loving and cherished relationship between our families. You were loving Godparents to my brother Andy and my parents were truly honored to be Godparents to your son Lane, Jr.
Personally I have always felt a special bond to your family, beginning on the day I was born. Lane was the first person to visit my Mom and Dad after I was born. Since I had not yet been named, Lane suggested that they name me Mark because I was born on St. Mark's Day. I am so proud and honored to carry the name Lane bestowed upon me.
May God Bless all of you.

Dear Lane:
Although I was not blessed to know your father personally, I join you in celebrating his depth of love, courage, and humanity. From reading these memorials, I can see that the hearts who knew and loved this amazing man are sad, grieving, yet smiling in love, awareness, and gratitude, and they reveal to me the answer his soul had to the holy question that challenges each of us: “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” (Mary Oliver, "The Summer Day")

Lane Williams will be remembered in Macon as a wonderful husband, family man, pillar of St. Joseph's and beloved all over Macon. In the United States Marine Corps he will be remembered as a member of the 23rd Marine Regiment of the 4th Marine Division which saw the fiercest fighting in the Pacific island hopping campaigns to include the battles of IWO JIMA, Saipan and Tinian, and Roi Namur. On Iwo Jima, the 23rd Regiment led the intial attack on Montoyama airfield. In this most legendary of Marine battles, the 4th division in which Lane Williams served had over 9,000 casualties including 1,731 killed in action. All Marines salute Lane Williams for his service in World War II. I had the great priviledge to grow up in Macon and know the Williams family and also the priviledge of commanding the 4th Marine Division in the 1990s. I always considered it a high honor to visit with Lane and talk about our United States Marine Corpsand thank him for his service. Major General Arnold L. Punaro, United States Marine Corps (ret), Commanding General, 4th Marine Divsion 1997- 2000.

Dear Bette and Williams family, I was so sorry to read in the online paper about Lane. What a lot of memories are going through my mind right now. Sorry I have not seen any of you in so long. I was fortunate enough to see Carl at MDS last June, but there were so many people talking we did not really get a chance to catch up. All of you are in my prayers and thoughts at this sad time. What a great man your Daddy was.
With much love and affection,
Pam
