Ethel Lee Floyd Pusey Obituary
Ethel Lee Floyd Pusey, 94, of W. Ravenwood Avenue, Youngstown, OH, departed this life Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Boardman Campus, surrounded by family following a short illness.
Ethel was born October 4, 1929 in Youngstown, OH, the daughter of Willie Oliver and Beulah R. Phifer Floyd Sr.
Ethel attended South High school and lived in Youngstown her entire life. She married Oswin E. Pusey, in 1948. Together Ethel and Oswin started a beautiful family legacy beginning with seven children, The "P- Force". Ultimately, their union lead to four generations in which she reared with wisdom and love.
Ethel had nine decades and four years of attributes and accomplishments. She was a loyal loving wife and homemaker ensuring the well being of her family. One of her greatest achievements was establishing a childcare center. She was the Owner/Operator of Five Little Fingers Daycare for over 10 years, before retiring. Ethel was a well known Elevator Operator for the historic Realty Building in downtown Youngstown. Proudly, Ethel also helped with the early operations of the Boys and Girls Club of Youngstown; she enjoyed nurturing and working with children.
Ethel was a God fearing woman, praying for everyone she met, she gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a Bible enthusiast. She was a member of St. Andrew's AME Church, where she sang in the Choir. She also enjoyed visiting Metropolitan Baptist Church and Destiny International. Her devoted membership in the Floyd In Harmony club helped keep family and friends united.
Ethel found joy in music. Playing the piano or an organ while singing opera or a gospel hymn was part of her greatest pastime. Ethel enjoyed cooking especially for the holidays. Her family will never forget her cornbread dressing, sweet potato pie, and hog head cheese sauce meat. Ethel had a love for cowboy movies, and "the soaps". Her favorites were "Gunsmoke" and "The Young and the Restless".
Queen Ethel leaves to mourn and cherish her memory four sons, Trevor E. Pusey of Birmingham, England, Stephan Melton of Cleveland, Tawana (Denise) Pusey and Jjmal Pusey both of Youngstown; one daughter, Ms. Amoy Pusey Hollinshead of Youngstown; one brother, Lamont Floyd of Youngstown; Fifteen grandchildren; Thirty-Two grandchildren; Three great-great grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Wilma Brown, Willie Oliver Floyd Jr., Alfred Floyd, Louis Floyd, Julia Ells, Cornelius Floyd Sr., Youlanda Jenkins and Joretta Cotten. Twin sons, Derrell E. Pusey and Gerald E. Pusey Sr. One daughter, Ms. Aloma Joretta Pusey-Brown. Five grandchildren Tawana Hines Jr., Gerald Pusey Jr., Lamont Brown, Adam Melton, Ryan Melton, and One great-great grandchild, Harmony Green.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024 at 12:00 p.m., with Calling Hours from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the Sterling-McCullough Williams Youngstown Funeral Chapel. Burial will take place at Mahoning Valley Memorial Park Cemetery.
