Edward Keaney Obituary

Edward Bartholomew Keaney died suddenly at home in Indian Wells, CA on August 27, 2021. Born June 11, 1951 in St. Louis, Missouri to a big Irish Catholic family, Ed had an idyllic childhood with a fun-loving family. A 1969 graduate of SLUH, Ed earned his BS in Economics at Saint Louis University and later his MBA from Washington University. He met his wife of 37 years, Pat, while working in St. Louis, and the two married and started their family there, before a courageous move to the San Francisco Bay Area for Ed's finance career. Ed is survived by his wife, Pat (née Waldron); daughters, Gretchen (Mark), Paige, and Hope (Peter); siblings, Frank (Phyllis), Carroll (Holly), Theresa (George), and Marie; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Frank and Carroll. At his core, Ed was perpetually optimistic, exceptionally intelligent and cheerfully fun-loving. He loved regaling everyone around him with hilarious stories, and his razor sharp wit and mischievous sense of humor brought joy to everyone that knew him. He was a lifelong tennis player and golfer. In retirement, he quickly developed a large circle of friends at Indian Wells Country Club and relished his daily golf matches. He was proud to see his golf index dropping at an age where most begin to trend up and had spent this past summer perfecting a new swing. A kind and gentle man, his greatest joy came from being a father of three girls. Despite a demanding career when the girls were young, Ed always put his family first. He valued independence in his girls and instilled his midwestern values and work ethic in all of them. He didn't often meddle, but when the occasion called for it, he was a source of wise, and at times surprisingly sensitive advice. Ed will be dearly missed by all lucky enough to know him, most of all by his family who was looking forward to spending more time with him over the next few years in Indian Wells. A funeral Mass is planned in Ed's honor at Sacred Heart Church in Palm Desert, CA on Friday, September 3, 2021 at 1 p.m.

To the Keaney Family,

Ed was my manager at Volpe Brown Whelan. I just googled him today because I am planning a trip to the US and wanted to get back in touch again. Needless to say I am shocked to find that he has passed away.

Ed was a gentleman, a dedicated family man proud of his girls, good fun, and the best boss I ever had.

May he rest in peace.

We were both shocked and saddened to hear of Ed's sudden passing. I had just played golf, and shared a libation or two, with him the day before. He was one of the most positive, funny, and gentle souls I have ever met. I know how much Pat and his girls meant to him. We will miss you, Too Tall.

Ed was my older brother by only 11 months and last Friday I lost my "Irish twin." I have many fond childhood memories of us watching black-and-white horror movies, playing North vs. South Heaven (I was the South and always lost) and spending many Sundays with Ed and the Jake boys at our family barbecues. Ed was a wonderful brother, a loving husband to Pat, a devoted Dad to Gretchen, Paige and Hope and he'll be forever loved and missed by all of us.

Pat and girls, Kim and I were so sorry to hear about Ed. I miss seeing him walk the little white dog up and down butterfield. So sorry for your loss.
