My sympathy to all of Bill's family and friends. What a wonderful man he was.
I knew Bill because we served in the Navy at the same time - both at the Officers Candidate School and aboard the U.S.S. Hancock.
Bill was bright and a very effective leader. He was fun to be around and I learned many things from him. Not the least was how to improve my tennis game. But, not enough to win a game.
I will never forget his ever present humor when one day he said he was told by the Navy recruiter that if he joined the Navy he would see the world. But, " little did I realize it would be from 7 miles out".
Rest in peace my friend.

I served under Mr. McGivern at the U.S. Attorney's Office, where he was a man of passion: for the law, for justice, and above all, for the lawyers and staff who worked with and for him. I am sad to hear of his death from complications of a disease that has taken away far too many others. I hope that those reading this will join me in contributing to the family's selected charity or another organization involved in the research and public awareness of Alztheimer disease.

Bill was a talented advocate, a wonderful guy to work with, and a fine Judge. There can be no doubt that he is now discharging his duties -- hopefully light and pleasant ones -- in his new station, well and faithfully .

I was also a classmate of Bill's at Whitefish Bay High School, class of '57. I echo Dave Roeder"s thoughts. My memories of are all positive. Bill was very intelligent, thoughtful, concerned for others.I am sorry to hear of his passing but know he is now free of the captivity of this desease.

I was a classmate of Bill's at Whitefish Bay High School -- Class of '57. My memories of Bill are totally positive and I am not the least bit surprised that he had a long and honorable career with many significant contributions to our beloved nation. His life is one that certainly deserves celebration. God Bless You All!

Sally, I am so sorry to hear of Bill's passing, though it may ultimately be a blessing, given the ravages of this terrible disease that seems to afflict more of us each year. I knew Bill well in law school, and in practice over the years our paths would often cross. Always in good spirits, always good stories, always good laughs. I tried a jury case in front of him, just at the tail end of his career, and posed an objection to a question asked of my witness (to give him time to clear his thinking cap), which Bill overruled; I asked for a side bar, and told him if he had sustained my objection, I would have appealed- he laughed and had to take a break. He was fun to be around. My best to you and family, and while I don't know your children, I know that your 3 are the same ages of my own, all of whom are doing well, as I hope you and yours are as well. Hope to drop by and say hello. As ever, Jim Green
