Henry A. Latka

Henry A. Latka 1918 - 2006 EASTHAMPTON - Henry Latka, 87, of Summit Avenue, died Thursday March 2 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. Born in Easthampton on May 19, 1918 and is the son of the late John and Rosalia (Mroczko) Latka. He retired in 1980 from the former Stanley Home Products in Easthampton where he had worked for 38 years. Mr. Latka was a WWII veteran serving with the US Coast Guard. A communicant of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church where he had served as an altar server and on the Parish Council, he was also a member of the church's Rosary Sodality. Mr. Latka was a 60-year member and past commander of the American Legion Dalton LaVallee Post 224 in Easthampton. A former Park and Recreation Commissioner for 17 years, he enjoyed gardening, traveling, and was an avid Polka and Boston Red Sox fan. He leaves his wife of 56 years, Katherine (Kubasek) Latka; 2 daughters, Jane Nathan and her husband James of Granby, and Donna LeBlanc and her husband Michael of Norwood, MA; a sister, Julie Kania of Easthampton; and a grandson, Thomas Nathan. A Military Funeral will be held on Monday at 9:30 at the Boucher-O'Brien Funeral Home, 7 Pleasant Street, followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will be at the St. Stanislaus Cemetery, all in Easthampton. Calling hours are Sunday from 4:00 - 8:00. The Holy Rosary Sodality will pray the Rosary at 4:30 on Sunday.
