Steve Mason Obituary

With family by his side, Steve Mason passed peacefully on March 18, 2023 after a short illness. Steve was a resident of Newman, CA and is survived by two children, Alex Roslansky of Twin Valley, Minnesota and Samara Sidorsky of San Francisco as well as a new grandson, Gunnar Roslansky. Steve is survived by his four siblings Tad (and Norma) Mason of Carmel, CA, Leslie Mason of Portland, OR, Greg (and Tammy) Mason of Beaverton, OR and Wendy Mason of Campbell, CA. In addition, Steve has five nephews and three nieces. Born December 14, 1955 at Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, Steve was part of a navy family. The Masons were very mobile, moving (as many military families do) every few years and living on or adjacent to a number of East Coast and West Coast naval bases. Ultimately the family settled in the East Bay. Steve graduated from Berkeley High School and was starting quarterback for the 1972 championship football team. He was a gifted athlete, attending Arizona State University on a football scholarship and later pitching for the Seattle Mariners minor league team, the Bellingham Loggers. After his baseball career, Steve headed north to Alaska to build houses. Following his years in Alaska, he returned to the Bay Area and developed a successful concrete construction enterprise, Steve Mason Concrete Construction. He was very proud of the fact that he employed 20 skilled craftsmen conducting work all over the South Bay Area. Steve treated his employees like extended family. Steve was a lifelong Raider fan and season ticket holder, plus he enjoyed attending Oakland A's and Golden State Warriors games. He loved to barbecue, even acquiring a BBQ trailer to entertain family and friends. He had a gregarious nature and attracted new friends wherever he went. Most importantly, he had a huge heart and touched many lives with his kindness and generosity. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Remembrances may be made to the charity of your choice.

Leslie, Steve´s sister was my friend in highschool. I´ll always remember her brothers´ Tad and Steve as a team. They were independent yet very close to one another. I never had brothers so I was always intrigued that they were Leslie´s "big brothers". We listened to Steves records while he was probably at football practice and were there for some great parties at the Gravatt House. I still have a flier for one! Good family. Good people. My love goes out to all the Mason´s. Especially Leslie. Hope to see you all at a later date.

The world's and my and my lady's and Steve's circle of friends' QUALITY OF LIFE are deeply and joyfully better because of Steve Mason's soul. I miss my friend and brother, but I'm more grateful than I am sad.
