PIQUA — Michael R. Byrum, 78, of Piqua, died at 1:45 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, 2018, at Ohio's Hospice of Miami County Inpatient Unit of Upper Valley Medical Center. He was born Oct. 2, 1939, in Winchester, Indiana, to the late Ralph L. and Mabel I. (Glassford) Byrum Wooddell. He married Barbara E. Swarts Nov. 26, 1966, in Las Vegas, Nevada, and she survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Lisa (Tony) Martin of Sidney; three grandchildren, James Potter, Jason Potter, Melissa Nicodemus; two great-grandchildren, Olivia Corner, Dakota Zell; three brothers-in-law, David (Barbara) Swarts, Elery (Sue) Swarts, Anthony (Charlotte) Swarts; two sisters-in-law, Sherry (Terry) Smith, Rebecca Guzman; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He is also survived by his dear friends from Santa Ana, California, Corky Allsep, Marco & Lily Barajas, Rachel Hannon, Emily Guerrero, Zoe, Simon & Sal Solorzano and the Simpson Family.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Janice Huelskamp; a brother, Kenneth Byrum; and a stepfather, Milton E. Wooddell.
Mr. Byrum was a 1957 graduate of Piqua Central High School. He served proudly in the United States Army in Vietnam in the 101st Airborne from 1963 to 1966. He worked for many years as a flooring technician and eventually retired in California. He was an avid fan of college football, especially Ohio State and the University of Southern California. He enjoyed boxing in his younger years and watching later in life. He also enjoyed watching UFC.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are being provided to the family through the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home.
