A lifelong resident of Monterey, Peter Joseph Torrente, 91 years of age, was the son of the late Mariano and Mamie (Ventimiglia) Torrente. Peter passed away peacefully at home on June 8, 2021, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with liver cancer. Peter met the love of his life, Maryann (Abbati) Torrente in high school, they married on June 10, 1951, at San Carlos Cathedral in Monterey. This past June 10th would have been their 70th wedding anniversary.

Peter was the former owner of the Waldorf Bar on Alvarado Street in Monterey and later was the owner/broker of Peter Torrente Real Estate for 36 years before retiring. During his career, he was the 1983 Treasurer and 1984 Director for the Monterey Peninsula Board of Directors. He also was presented a plaque in appreciation from the City of Monterey for outstanding service from 1974 to 1978 as a member of the Planning Commission. Peter was a member of the "Team of the Century" 1948 Toreadors, he was named All-Conference Lineman of the Year in 1951, and was inducted into the Lobo Hall of Fame for Monterey Peninsula College in March 1999. He was a major sponsor of athletics at Monterey Peninsula College.
Peter and MaryAnn were always on the go. They enjoyed walking daily around Lake El Estero, enjoyed traveling, went on many cruises, and loved to go to Italy. They also went on trips to Las Vegas and enjoyed taking road trips to Lake Tahoe. Peter was a high-stakes winner at Harrah's in Lake Tahoe. In their recent years, they enjoyed going out to lunch and then going see a good movie. Peter loved going to his Amici Club in the mornings and spending time with friends there.
Peter leaves behind his soul mate, loving and devoted wife, MaryAnn. His children, Geraldine Guerra (Peter), Mario Torrente (Amy) and Carmella Blackmon (Bruce). Dad,
You were the light of our life's! Our hearts are broken You're faith and love in God gave you the strength to face each new day.

You reside in heaven with God now.... and you are free of pain. Heaven has gained a very special Angel today.

You have inspired us to follow in your footsteps and be caring and giving to others.
We will continue to honor all the traditions you held dear in your heart.

Dad there will never be a kinder and more loving man than you.

The tears will flow for awhile...that can't be helped. You took God's hand and now
you are free.

Love you

Peter Torrente has been a friend to the Watts Family for many years. Selling us our first house in Seaside and in 1979 helped in finding a building for Denny to rent so he could open his glass shop, which his son Richard has now taken over after his dad's passing in 2013. Peter's passing has touched the Watts family deeply and we send our deepest condolence and prayers to Torrente Family. God Bless you Peter! Richard, Ann & Jonathan, Michael Watts and Cheryl Watts Cato

I am deeply sadden by the passing of cousin Peter it took me by surprise. He was a kind and good man. He extended himself to me when I was writing my book the Italians of the Monterey Peninsula. He invited me to the AMCI Club where he introduced his italians friends to me. He fished with my father and provided numerous pictures for my book, he will be missed.

Nano, you always put your family's happiness over your own. You where such a thoughtful and a caring grandpa. You accepted everyone, and tried to have a understanding with everyone you met in your life. You where such a kindhearted and gentle man, and so wise. I have learned a lot from you, and your spirit will live on in my heart forever. It maybe goodbye for now, but not forever. We will miss you so much.

Love,
Your grandson Peter T.
