John Kushnir Obituary
Formerly of Carteret - John Kushnir, 94 formerly of Carteret passed away at his home in Aberdeen with his loving family by his side.
Born in Ukraine, John resided in Carteret for many years before settling in Aberdeen. He graduated from the University of Warsaw with a degree in Economics and was later employed as a laborer at FMC in Carteret for many years before retiring and was a member of many organizations including St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church, Ukrainian American Citizens Club, Ukrainian Congress Committee, Society of Veterans of Ukraine, proud advocate for the Freedom of Ukraine as well as a devoted member of various other Ukrainian organizations.
John was predeceased by his siblings, Andrew and Mykola Kushnir as well as his brother-in-law Adam Kazio and Michael Ulhursky. Surviving are his beloved wife, Maria Kushnir; three children, Irene Pender and her husband Jim of Manalapan, Peter Kushnir of Aberdeen, Alexandra DeSena and her husband Bill of Middletown. Also surviving are four grandchildren, John, Andrew, Marie and Brandon; sister, Kateryna residing in Poland; sister-in-laws, Ann Kazio, Irene Kozak and her husband John, and Krystyna Ulhursky-Iwaskow along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will begin at 9:15am on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 from CHUBENKO FUNERAL HOME, 625 Port Reading Avenue, Port Reading followed by a 10am Mass of Christian Burial at Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption in Perth Amboy. Interment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 18, 2019 from 4pm to 8pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John may be made to St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church Restoration Fund, 719 Roosevelt Avenue, Carteret, NJ 07008.
