Paul Joseph Birmer, Sr., 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at his daughter's home with his loving family by his side. Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA to the late John and Lillian (Roos), Paul joined the Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War from 1951-1953. He went on to graduate from Kings College with a degree in accounting in 1959. He accepted employment with the IRS in Newark. Paul retired after 30 years of service in 1989. He moved his family to Bound Brook in 1963, where he became very involved with the Boy Scouts and was very committed to helping coach Little League. Paul was quick to lend a hand. He was a member of American Legion Giles-Biondi Post 63, Bound Brook, Wilkes-Barre Moose Club, St. Conrad's Young Men's Society serving as a Gold Member, and his favorite, Watchung Fire Company No. 3, Bound Brook as a social member, where he leaves behind his firefighter family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing with his son, brothers and nephews and was active on the IRS bowling and softball teams.

Paul was predeceased by his parents; sister, Lillian Jaslar; brothers, John, Joseph, George and Carl; his loving wife of 47 years, Ruth Valrie who passed in 1998 and his beloved son, Paul J. Birmer, Jr. who passed in 2000. He is survived by his loving daughter, Lori and son-in-law, Charlie Tomaro of South Bound Brook; his cherished granddaughters, Holly and Amy Tomaro of South Bound Brook; daughter-in-law, Sandra Birmer and granddaughter, Morgan Birmer of Palm Bay, Fl; sister, Margaret Price of Wilkes-Barre, PA and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services are 9:30 AM, Monday, June 10, at Hagan- Chamberlain Funeral Home, 225 Mountain Ave., Bound Brook, followed by a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church.
