Alice Joan Stoulil was born on April 20, 1930, in Havelock, IA, the daughter of Wesley and Agnes (Viktora) Stoulil. She attended Havelock Consolidated School for 1st through 10th grade and then Pocahontas Public for grades 11 and 12, graduating in 1947. Jo then worked for 2 years in the superintendent's office in Pocahontas before attending Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. After graduation she moved back to Northwest Iowa and taught elementary school at Pomeroy and Rolfe.
On October 26, 1957, Jo was united in marriage to Cletus Lawrence Peiffer at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pocahontas. They lived on the Peiffer family farm near Fonda where she no longer worked outside the home, choosing to raise her children and help on the farm even though she did not care to plow! Cletus and Jo were blessed with five children: Teresa, Paul, Ann, Marilyn, and Elaine.
Jo was a long-time member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Fonda. She was an active member of Catholic Daughters of America, Holy Family Society, and choir.
Jo enjoyed bowling, golfing, and traveling with Cletus on bus trips. She loved watching sporting events in general, but especially when her children and grandchildren were participating. Flower and vegetable gardening, being a 4-H leader, baking Czech Kolaches, and playing the piano were some of her favorite things. Cletus and Jo continued to farm until they retired and moved to Twin Lakes in 2003.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Teresa (Andy) Knoblauch of St. Cloud, MN; Ann (Jay) Stoltenberg of Wall Lake, IA; Marilyn (Carl) Johnson of St. Joseph, MO; Elaine Peiffer of Marshalltown, IA; grandchildren Brian (Jenna) Knoblauch, Jessica (Ivan) Ayala, Chris Knoblauch; Mandy (Jeff) Schroeder, Kayla (Tyler) Riggs, Marcus (Michaela) Stoltenberg, Jackson Stoltenberg; Candace (Nick) Musser, Michael (Kori) Rongey; great grandchildren Ellie and Bennett Knoblauch; Romeo, Zoe and Rocco Ayala; Teagan, Kiersten, Beckett and Riley Schroeder; Adalynn, Jessa, and Rylan Riggs; Wyatt and Blair Stoltenberg; Ames Musser; Beni, Jovi, Teddi, Rooney and Wylie Rongey; sister, Therese (Chuck) Cunningham of Pocahontas, IA; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.
Jo was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cletus (2013); son, Paul (1977); and great granddaughter, Maci Schroeder (2020). Also preceding her in death were her siblings: Louise Sedlacek Halder, Mildred Krips, Leonard Stoulil, and Francis Stoulil, their spouses, and brother-in-law Jack Patrick.
