Arthur (Art) Gustiv Crittenden, 77, of
Fort Gibson, OK was born November 3, 1946 in Muskogee, OK to Tom and Velma (Scates) Crittenden and entered Heaven's gates on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 with his loving family by his bed side.
After graduating high school, Art proudly served his country in the United States Army in June of 1966 and served until June of 1968, where he was honorably discharged. Art furthered his education at Connors State College, graduating with an associate degree. He married the love of his life, Velma Smith, on June 16, 1967, a marriage that lasted over 56 years. Art worked for the Corps of Engineers for 32 years, retiring as a Power Plant Shift Operator. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Fort Gibson where he served as a Deacon. Art went on many mission trips, spreading the gospel and was instrumental in building many wheelchair ramps in the area. He was also a member of the Frank Gladd American Legion Post #20 in Fort Gibson and a retired Fort Gibson volunteer firefighter. Art had a passion for woodworking and carving. One of his proudest works is the pulpit he built currently used at Fort Gibson First Baptist Church. He also made many beautiful pieces for friends and family. Art worked with Mosteller Construction on many new homes and home remodels in the greater Fort Gibson area. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Art is preceded in death by his parents; and his son, John David Crittenden.
Those left to cherish Art's memory are his wife, Velma of the home; daughter, Suzy Boling of Fort Gibson; son, Tom Crittenden and wife Corie of Locust Grove; daughter-in-law, Stephani; granddaughters, Carly Boling of Tulsa, Cassidy Boling of Fort Gibson, Salani LaFave and husband Phillip of Muskogee; grandson, Tyler Crittenden of
Yuma, AZ; sister-in-law; Thelma Harris of Fort Gibson; and sister, Joyce Hammack of Muskogee; extended family and numerous friends.
A celebration of Art's life will be held 11AM, Monday, March 4, 2024 at First Baptist Church in Fort Gibson with Pastors Danny Gandara and Logan Lambert officiating. Daughter Suzy Boling will be eulogizing. Keith Burditt will be providing special music. Tom Panter, Phil Wood, Charles Dortch, Louie Mosteller, Doug Burt, Bret Hammack, and Doug Dortch will serve as honorary urn bearers.
The family would like to give a special 'thank you' to Nurse Linda Milton with Rivercross Hospice and Dr. Riley of the VA Medical Center for their exceptional care.
