Barbara Ann Blakely Chastain, age 83, passed away on May 19, 2024, in Atlanta, GA. She was born on November 16, 1940, to Thomas Pinckney Blakely Jr. & Dorothea Inez Williams Blakely in Atlanta, GA.
She is survived by her husband William Franklin Chastain, son and daughters-in-laws: Thomas Troy Chastain/Mary Margaret Gorey Chastain, Benjamin Blakely Chastain/Meredith Fisher Chastain, and Maxwell Davidson Chastain/Nicole Warren-Miller Chastain. Her brother Thomas Pinckney Blakely III and six grandchildren: Kathryn Michelle Chastain Castle/Alex Clark Castle, Blakely Nicole Chastain, William James Chastain, Matthew Blakely Chastain, Richard Franklin Chastain, and Sven Pinckney Chastain.
Barbara's lifelong passion for genealogy was truly remarkable. Collaborating with both her father and father-in-law, she demonstrated exceptional skill in tracing and documenting the rich histories of both families. Her dedication extended beyond her personal pursuits, as she actively participated in numerous hereditary societies, holding notable positions such as President of the Huguenot Society of the Founders of Manakin, National Vice-President General of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and GA State Regent of the DAR, among others. Alongside her cherished husband Frank, Barbara explored the world with curiosity and wonder, developing a deep affection for Guatemala and its people. A proud graduate of Grady High School and the Atlanta College of Art, Barbara contributed her talents as a commercial artist with Rich's department stores. Her adventurous spirit and boundless generosity will be dearly missed.
A viewing will be held on May 23rd between 5-7pm and funeral services will be held on May 24th at 12 Noon at A. S. Turner Funeral Home (2773 N Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30033). Graveside services will be held on May 24th at 3pm at White Chapel Memorial Gardens. (1832 Pleasant Hill Rd, Duluth, GA 30096)
