Cecelia M. Majeres, 80, of Macomb, Illinois passed away peacefully Friday, June 30, 2023, at her home.
She was born July 8, 1942, in Tracy, Minnesota to Theodore and Eunice (Vedder)Hick. She received her B.S. in Elementary Education at Mankato State University. After graduation she taught 3rd- 5th grades. While at MSU she met her future husband, Raymond Majeres, whom she married in 1967.
After moving to Macomb, Ceal worked with older adults at the YMCA Senior Center and Americana Nursing Home. She next worked as St. Paul Church secretary. She finished her career as a secretary at WIU Campus Recreation Center.
Ceal dedicated herself to service in the many organizations she joined. She was a meticulous planner and organizer, which served her well in her many endeavors.
She was a leader in the St. Paul's Church Women's Guild and Church. She served terms as president and vice president of the Guild. She led many fundraising activities in various roles, including the Cookie Walk, Decorate-A-Table, Rummage Sale, and Bazaar Crafts and Fun Fair. She sang in the choir for many years. She energetically welcomed newcomers to the parish and encouraged them to get involved. She served as a Eucharistic minister and took communion to nursing home residents.
In 2016 she received a Peoria Diocesan Award for Service to the Catholic Church.
Ceal refreshed her ukelele skills from her camp counselor days and joined Ukelele Macomb in 2010. She enjoyed practicing with the dynamic group and performing at gigs. She joined the Macomb Women's Club and quickly took on many roles and responsibilities. She received the Club Woman of the Year Award in 2016. She joined a community book club (XXMD) and enjoyed sharing information during club presentations.
Ceal enjoyed sewing and crafting and shared her skills and creativity with her family, grandkids, and church fundraising projects. She loved outdoor activities including hiking, biking, tent camping and canoeing, which she enjoyed with her husband and daughter, and later, her grandkids. She planned and organized memorable summer trips for her family to southern Illinois to hike, bike, fish, and camp. Her daughter and grandkids cherish these memories with Mema Celie and Papa Ray.
Ceal is survived by her loving husband, Ray. Also surviving are her daughter, Lisa Slinger of Nashville, Tennessee; Grandchildren, Brady, Camden, and Annika Slinger; sisters, Sandra Hick of Lawrence, Kansas and Jacque Hick of Rochester, Minnesota.
Visitation will be Wednesday July 5, from 5-7 PM at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 PM. A Memorial Mass will be at 10 AM, Thursday July 6 at St. Paul's Church. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass, with a rosary in the chapel at 9:30 AM.

Sending Ceil´s family our deepest sympathy. I will miss sharing family stories with her and a friendship that goes back to our childhoods together. We all are so proud of the wonderful woman, wife, mother, and grandmother she became. You are all in our thoughts.
