It is with heavy hearts, and profound sadness, that we announce the passing of our beloved Christina L Beaton, who departed from this world on May 14, 2023. Christina's passage has already left an enormous void in our lives. She was a cherished mother, daughter, nannie, sister, friend to everyone she encountered, and a longtime member of the White Plains community. You could say she was a Scottish Angel, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Over the years, Christina came to be known by family and friends affectionately as Tina. Tina was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on January 27, 1943, to her loving parents James and Beatrice Davidson. From a young age she displayed an incredible zest for life, and an innate kindness that touched the hearts of all those around her. She possessed a warm infectious smile and a radiant personality that drew people to her. Her ability to remember names and make others feel important and welcomed was unparalleled. Her family and friends were of utmost importance to her, and she valued the relationships she cultivated throughout her life. She had an unwavering devotion to her loved ones, and colleagues, always making time to offer support, lend a listening ear, and provide a shoulder to lean on. She would also never hesitate to help strangers on the street who were in need of assistance.
Tina immigrated to the United States along with her cousin Jemima Lumsden in 1962. They both traveled here to work as Au Pairs for families in the Westchester area. Before leaving Scotland Tina finished secondary school and worked for a book binding company in Edinburgh.
Tina met her husband John Christopher Beaton in White Plains NY. Anyone who knew Chris would attest that this was the luckiest day of his life. They married in 1964 settled in White Plains, and had 3 loving sons: Stephen, Robert and Michael. She was the greatest, most devoted mother a person could ask for.
Tina was a well-known fixture in the downtown White Plains community. She worked as a waitress at the famous Tighes Tavern for over 35 years. During That time she met hundreds of people while serving them that fell in love with her invitingly warm, compassionate and sincere personality. She possessed the great gift of being able to remember people's names even if they had not visited the restaurant in a long time. She loved working at Tighes. Tina also continued to be a housekeeper and do domestic work for various families in the area. In doing this, she made long lasting meaningful relationships with people who also were enamored with the person that she was. She was a tireless and dedicated employee. She spent most of her time working and constantly helping others. She was the ultimate giver, alway making sacrifices for the betterment of others.
When she wasn't at work she loved spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She also very much enjoyed hosting wonderful holiday get-togethers. She was exceptional at it. When she had vacation time she loved going to Rhode Island, it was a special place for her to make memories with her family. Tina also loved to go back to her home city of Ediburgh to visit family and her best and oldest friend Pat. She also loved listening to Scottish bagpipe and country music as well as Rod Stewart and Elvis. Although she loved her homeland of Scotland one of the proudest days of her life was when she became an American citizen. She embraced and loved the USA.
Tina's warmth and compassion and unwavering love will forever remain etched in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to experience her presence. Tina's passing leaves an immeasurable void in our lives, but her memory will assuredly forever be a source of solace and inspiration.
She leaves behind her sons Stephen, Robert and Micheal, her grandchildren Bobby, Corey and Isabella, her daughter in law Vanessa, her cousin Lisa and a host of extended family members, friends and co-workers who will continue to cherish her memory. Tina is predeceased by her husband Christopher.
A memorial service will be held Thursday May 25, 2023 from 4 to 8pm at McMahon Funeral Home to honor and celebrate Tina's life. In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests that donations be made to Calvary Hospital in Christina's name, as a testament to her unwavering commitment to helping others.
