Connie (Negrete) Swanson was born in Williams, Iowa to Simon and Angelina (Hernandez) Negrete. She grew up in Belmond, Iowa. After graduating from high school in Belmond, she moved to Des Moines and worked at Look magazine. She married Cecil S. Swanson, Sr. on December 16, 1961. Connie was a homemaker and devoted mother and grandmother. Never one to lounge, she always worked hard and gave of herself and was particularly devoted to the wellbeing of her family. After her family, her second love was satisfying her sweet tooth. Although diminutive in size, her spirit and strength were large. She was an independent woman with a loving heart. Connie was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church and enjoyed reading about her Catholic faith.
Survivors include her daughter Elizabeth (Liz) Swanson-Hyland (Charlie Hyland) of Leawood, KS and son, Cecil Swanson, Jr., of West Des Moines, IA, grandchildren, Courtney Hyland, Andrew Hyland, Clare Hyland, and Luke Hyland of Leawood, KS, sisters Nellie Fleming of Omaha, NE, Ruth Mathews of Neptune Beach, FL, and brothers Simon (Rose) Negrete, Jr. of Draper, UT, and Robert (Kay) Negrete of Lakeville, MN, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Jean, Mary, Isabel, Rose, and Stella, and brothers, Joseph, Jesus, and John, and her granddaughters, Haley and Rachel Hyland.
The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage of Overland Park and Ascend Hospice for their attentive care. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Alzheimer's Association.
