Daniel Joseph Lyons Jr., beloved husband of the late Bette M. "Liz" Lyons (nee Grosch) for 55 years, loving father of Michele (Paul) Lefkovitz, Diane (Jack Sr.) Erb and Daniel "Dee" (Cindy) Lyons III, Dear Grandpa of Alison Lefkovitz (Stephan Endicott), Steven Lefkovitz, Jack Erb Jr. (Jenn), Alex Erb, Daniel Lyons IV (Stephanie), Tanner Lyons (Katherine) and Jacob Lyons (Brittany Rhoades). Dearest great Grandpa of Indy "The Rascal" Lefkovitz, Daniel "The Nickel" Lyons V, Avery Erb, David Lyons and the late Aurora 'Rory" Erb. Dear brother of the late Marion Lyons Connett and James (Jean) Lyons. Sunday, Feb 13, 2022 Age 93 years. Other survivors include many nieces and nephews. Danny was born at home to Daniel J Lyons Sr. and Mary Catherine (Walsh) Lyons, the youngest of three children, during the depression in 1928. He graduated from Holy Family Catholic School and Western Hills High school. Danny attended Elder High School and the University of Cincinnati Evening College for two years. He was drafted into the Army and served in the Korean War where he attained the rank of Corporal. Danny was sent to Ft. Knox, Kentucky for basic training in the First CAV Division AAA. The first year he was in the Army, Danny was stationed at Ft. Knox. Later, he spent two months in Korea and the other 11 months in Japan, serving as a cook on the Northern Island of Hokkaido, Camp Chitose town. Danny served in the US Army for a total of 21 months. Before and after his military service, Danny work as a clerk for the L & N railroad for a total of about 7 years. When the L & N went on strike, he purchased Danny's Paddock Delicatessen & Pony Keg in Bond Hill. He owned and managed the store for 13 years, selling it in 1967. His wife ran the store the last year. On September 11, 1966, Danny was hired as a deputy clerk by Judge John Weld Peck II of the US District Court, Southern District of Ohio, Western Division in Cincinnati. He worked his way up in the system and became the senior deputy clerk on September 7, 1977. Danny retired on January 21, 1994 after 27 years and attaining the position of Senior Deputy Clerk in Charge of the Cincinnati office. In his final role, Danny had the honor of providing oversight of the entire US District Court in Cincinnati for 17 years. Danny was a talented athlete his entire life and was active in baseball, softball, basketball, football, golf & bowling. When he was a youngster at Holy Family Catholic School, his teams won two City Championships in Knothole baseball & one in basketball. Danny was a first baseman for his team. As a young man he played football with Pete Rose's father, Harry Francis "Pete" Rose in Saylor Park. Later in his youth, Danny worked at Crosley Field for three seasons. In the first season, he was an usher and in the following two seasons, he operated the scoreboard. He slid the numbers, which were printed on large pieces of tin, through slots in the wall for the audience to see from a distance. He played softball into his 50s. After his retirement from the courts, he worked as a ranger at Pebble Creek Golf Course. He played golf into his 80s and he had two holes in one. Danny never knew a stranger. In his almost 94 years on this earth, he knew people from all walks of life. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He had the Irish "Gift of Gab" and enjoyed "shooting the breeze". To all of those who loved him, he will be greatly missed. Danny & Liz belonged to many square and round dance clubs in the Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky areas for many years. Heartfelt thanks go to the many staff of Chesterwood Village who took care of Danny since August, 2019. Visitation Friday, Feb 18, from 9 am to 10 am at the Neidhard-Minges Funeral Home, 3155 Harrison Ave. (Westwood), followed by Funeral Mass 10:30am at St. Aloysius Church (Bridgetown).
