Darrell Lee Evans, age 86, of Shawneetown, Illinois, passed peacefully on Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. Darrell was born on April 2, 1938, in Harrisburg, Illinois. He was the son of the late Arthur and Marie (Riegel) Evans. He married the former Mary Ann Parish on August 10, 1957. They were married for 65 years. Sadly, Mary Ann preceded Darrell in death on October 23, 2022.
Darrell was an Operating Engineer. Darrell attended the Calvary's Promise Church in Shawneetown. He enjoyed being with his family, fishing, and watching sports. Darrell is survived by his daughter, Cheri and Donnie Downen of Ridgway, and son Alan and Nickie Evans of New Haven. He is also survived by his grandchildren Cody Downen, Jordan Evans (Sean Adams), Cory Evans, and Erin (Rob) Gmerek. His great-grandchildren Asa, Austin Evans, Jeff, Alan, and Travis Gmerek. He is survived by his sisters, Margaret (Ed) Miller, Mary Ann (Buddy) Meadows, and Marcia Hooten all of Harrisburg. He had many nieces and nephews. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Ann; brother Donald, and a brother-in-law Gary Hooten.
Graveside services for Darrell will be on Friday, June 7, 2024, at the Union Ridge Cemetery near New Haven starting at 10:30 A.M. Rev. Buddy Hubbard will officiate. Those attending should go directly to the cemetery.
