David Alan Johns, 74, of Travelers Rest, South Carolina went home to be with the Lord on May 24, 2024, following a brief illness.
David was born in Gary, Indiana, on September 20, 1949. He graduated from Baptist Bible Seminary in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania in 1971 and married his late wife Linda in 1972. Between 1972 and 1990, David served the Lord in several ministries including Baptist Bible College and Seminary and First Baptist Church of Horseheads, New York. In 1990, Dave moved his family to Pickens, South Carolina, where he and Linda served as houseparents at Miracle Hill Children's Home for ten years before Dave transitioned to working full-time in the Crisis Cottage and in the facilities department for Miracle Hill Children's Home.
David has been a faithful member of Hampton Park Baptist Church in Greenville, South Carolina for more than thirty years. He served in the bus ministry, on the security team, as a deacon, and as a member of the missions committee at HPBC. Those who knew him well know he was always generous with his time and was willing to help others whenever he could.
David is survived by his two sons, Brian Johns (Suzanne) and Kevin Johns (Amy), five grandchildren, Will, Marykate, Tommy, Timothy, and Andrew Johns, two brothers, Don Johns (Doris) and Ralph Johns (Beth), and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife of more than 30 years, Linda Johns, his parents, Thomas and Helen Johns, and his brother, James Johns.
The Johns family will receive friends at Hampton Park Baptist Church on May 28, 2024, from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. and a graveside service near the Miracle Hill Chapel in Pickens, South Carolina directly following the memorial service.
Memorials may be made to Miracle Hill Ministries and designated to their Foster Care ministry (P.O. Box 2546, Greenville, SC 29602 or online at www.miraclehill.org/give).
