It is with great sadness that we report the passing of David Shell, beloved son of Howard and Dena Shell of Fallon, NV. Both Dena and Howard are grieving the death of a wonderful son whom they loved dearly. David passed peacefully and unexpectedly on the 9th April at San Damiano Retreat Center where David lived and worked for the past several years.
David grew up in Southern California, but also lived in several parts of the United States, learning, and honing his exceptional skills as a craftsman. During his life, David worked in residential construction, boat building in New England, and was an expert in many fields.
Some of these skills included welding, woodworking, furniture making, many types of repair, major construction of fences, decks, and remodeling in its many forms. The mark of his very high-quality craftsmanship is spread out wherever he created or repaired anything.
David, was also a very spiritual man, a long-time member of the Franciscan Secular Order, and the Knights of Columbus, David practiced his faith diligently, attending daily Mass and was seen daily praying to Rosary around the Retreat Center in the evenings.
He is greatly missed by all of his co-workers, the Franciscan friars and friends at the retreat center, and those in the local community at St. Isidore's, Danville, CA with whom David was very involved and had many friends.
The Funeral Service will be held at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Danville at 11:00am on Wednesday 15th May. The Burial will follow at 1:00pm at Holy Sepulchre in Hayward.
Lunch will be served in David's honor at San Damiano Retreat, 710 Highland Drive, Danville, after the burial.
